NAME:
Hakaiji Itōkagi
ALIAS:
Itō no Kagamigiri [Mirror Cut]
Quincy Killer
AGE:
171 (Shinigami)
APPEARANCE:
Compared to his brother's tall size, Itō is lithe in build. Flexible, even bordering on the verge of fragile, his frame gives false information of his physical capabilities. Eternally haunted and pale, his features are aristrocratic, but there is something depressing about them; as though they'd seen the true nature of the world and had not smiled since. Not one of Itō's comrades is able to recall ever having seen him smile.
PERSONALITY:
It remains to be discussed if Itō ever had a chance. Born from a night of sin, his soul was tainted before the moment he'd been conceived. A silent child, his grim looks have always led those around him to believe his face is the mirror of his inherit superiority. Or that he believes to be superior.
His personality took a turn for the worse when his darkness was allowed to grow in the days of war. The thrill of battle unleashed his inner demons and he came to like the shedding of blood. Yet, there is no sadism about him. Methodically, he will do what has to be done.
In times of peace, the murderer of a man becomes subject of punishment. But in times of war, the slayer of legions ascends into the pantheon of heroes
His descent into darkness had begun the moment he'd learned of the fate of his mother and the sin of his father. What had been a whisper in his heart turned into a not even repressed desire for revenge and slaughter.
Below layers of self control, there lies a lust for destruction.
He's always been far from a savage. Methodical, resourceful and lethal, Itō's desire of revenge has been fostered into a tree of hatred. His desire is cold and without passion. He is the worst kind of person to ever hate, for his emotionless drive is sure to become a successful plot of committed murder.
ALLIANCE:
Soul Society
Nibantai
Onmitsukidō
Seiryuu Ichizoku
Muuken [Underground Prison]
HISTORY:
Bastard son of Seiryuu Keiji and half-brother of Seiryuu Itada. Former captain of the second division and a hero of war as exalted as his half-brother. Turned into a political scapegoat when his deeds were no longer able to outweigh their resonating echoes. Prisoner of Muuken. Shame of Nibantai.
Hakaiji Itōkagi, the Mirror Cut. Hakaiji Itōkagi, the cracked mirror.
Almost two-hundred years ago, it began when Itada was already on his way to become a famous captain, powerful, strong and regarded, about to succeed their father.
Unable to visit upon an unwilling wife, a lower born woman had to satisfy the man's hunger. Resulting this night of infidelity was Itō. One and a half centuries after Itada had been born, Itō saw the light of the world. They were brothers of the same blood, but only one of them would ever carry the name of their maker, Seiryuu Keiji.
There was no place for Itō in this house. He would never have a place within the family of his father. A child of tragedy, he was sent away, his mother having died on the bed of birth. He only took with him the potential in his genes.
Even though conceived as sin, Itō was adopted into the Special Forces when he was six years old. Until then, he had lived with one of the lower noble families affiliated with the secretive organization.
The lectures of their father were handed down to him passively. He quickly learned how to exist in the shadows and learn what one could gather by looking over Itada's shoulders. The two were not brothers by blood, but in spirit. Becoming friends, they grew up together as closely as family.
While Itada was brought up to be the successor of a legacy, the protection of Seireitei, Itō joined a cult composed of nameless masks. It fit his identity perfectly. In the Shinigami's Special Forces, the nameless potential that was his genetic legacy was allowed to bloom into a dragon as deadly as Itada's own power. Even though they grew up on different scales and positions, their power was never far, despite their difference in age.
The day came when Itō was finally able to draw even with Itada's destined way, conquering his world, the world of assassinations and heartless murder, with lethal skills. At the age of only one-hundred-and-three years, Itō was installed Nibantai-taichou. Ruler of the Special Forces and still a person linked to the Commander of the Executive Militia, it seemed that clan Seiryuu had produced two worthy sons, even though the relation between Itada and Itō was widely unknown. Better guarded secrets exist. However. The assumption, considering the two men's similarity, could've been made by people close to the family.
Growing into a matured adult, a Lord of his own right, times were not social. War filled the land. And in these times, standing matters little. Those who can wield blades can walk next to kings on equal grounds. And a blade, Itō knew to wield. Hailed as the midnight twins, for their similar looks, Itada and Itō became heroes of their own rights, each walking a different path. While Itada's road was dedicated to perfection and the keeping of the name Seiryuu, Itō's path was filled with blood. The dirty work of Seireitei is the fate of the Special Forces. All those who fall out of line will be brought to justice.
But what if the judge falls out of line? Who controls the controlling mechanism?
Unable to escape the mental deficit that had made his father take his mother during a pale night, Itō developed a pleasure for killing and destruction. No longer was he someone who killed out of reason. His executions did no longer only serve the purpose of protection. His blade lashed out to consume.
War allowed this imbalance to be excused. Up until the moment Itō turned his blade to new challenges. Hollows and Arrancar were limited in their abilities. He required a new adventure, a new drink for his blade to consume. He found it in the troops of the Quincy Council, allies at the time, which stood with the Shinigami against the Hohlreich.
One or two at a time, he developed a taste for fighting them. Those he managed to cross blades with wouldn't be missed. The confusion of war swallowed them and nobody asked questions, considering they were allies united before the threat of the Hohlreich. However. It would occur that Itō became unable to hide his latest exploit of bloodlust?
An unspeakable massacre in the waning days of the war began his downfall. When the alerted reinforcements arrived at the scene, they saw only a sea of blood. Within its center sat Itō, calmly awaiting his brother. With the grin of a devil, he was brought away, commenting not the two dozen corpses consisting of his fukutaichou, several of his division members, and almost an an entire Quincy Apostle and its knight-commander.
They had been wiped out. Slaughtered in a way that made any reconstruction of the deeds impossible, even the 12th squad could make no light of it.
The truth remains limited to only Hakaiji Itōkagi's knowledge.
To this day, he hasn't spoken of the crimes committed and remains the only witness of his own deeds. In order to keep the balance of the treaty between Seireitei and the Vatican, Itō was trialed. His lack of explanation did not help his cause and he was sentenced to a thousand years detention in Muuken, underground prison, sacrificed by his distant family and the Gotei 13 in the interest of preserving their treaty with the Quincy.
