Her haori billowed in the wind for a split second before her very frame become nothing more than a blur; to anyone who had been around they would've sworn that she was a figment of their imagination. Her shunpo carried her elegantly across the buildings throught the Sereitei. The chaos was impending around the Soul Society for quite some time, it was obvious to every Shinigami. But what could most of them do? At the time even Maiko was nothing more than a seated Shinigami, she couldn't do much at all. But now was different - only due to disaster and calamity. Both of her superiors had passed away and she had been pushed up to the captain position. It was something she was still in awe about but, in terms of power, she fit in perfectly. All she truly needed was more leadership experience. The chaos had swept over in a giant tsunami before she could even try.
The Sereitei lost several captains and vice-captains; they had defected and ran away. They were traitors and nothing more, but, it seemed as if treason was like a disease because it spread just like one. The Nibantai captain and Rokubantai staged a coup d'état on the Sotaicho - Jukan Hinaai. Ordinarily anyone could become a captain by defeating the previous one in a one-on-one battle and take their position. Had they followed the laws and proceeded as such, it would have been no issue. But it was quite apparent to everyone that saw that they had not followed through. The thought made bile rose to the young Shinigami's throat and her hands clench in anger. In such times of darkness there were very few whom a person could consider an ally.
There were only two people that Maiko Ryu, captain of Squad 10, considered allies in the current situation. The first was the Nanabantai captain, Seiryu Itada, who also valued laws and the likes above everything else. The second was a man whose personal beliefs were very strong, and he was considered the strongest of the captains, aside from the Sotaicho. Ryuugamine Kariya was someone who could be counted on in such times of strife and peril. Despite her ignorance of leadership, the woman knew very well that she couldn't simply strike against the new Sotaicho. She had to organize and even see if her thought process was in the right place before anything else. She had arranged this meeting between them, in an area cloaked by high level kido. Despite the fact that the Omnitsukido was not moving, the Nibantai captain was very well known for his ability to move silently and quickly.
Opening the barrier and sliding in, she sat in a seat opposite of Kariya. Looking at him, he wasn't a very imposing man. His boyish looks and charmed belied the fierceness that was well known. Cracking her neck audibly she sighed.
"Kariya-san, what are we going to do about the pitiful state the Sereitei is in? I...It can't be allowed to continue. The traitor captains are banning together and many aren't even giving a second thought about the travesty of the assault on Hinaai-sama. We can't just sit idly by and let him sit in her seat as if he's a god. Anything...Kariya-san there has to be something we can do!" Maiko's distress was obvious and it was a rare sight to behold. She was someone who kept a stoic and calm atmosphere, especially around her division. But she was in the presence of her superior and she didn't feel the need to keep up the pretense of nothing being wrong.
