◙ PERSONALITY:
An unusual assortment of new and old, these two sides which sow the fabric of Okewa’s disposition are usually at odds – as his childish enthusiasm and curiosity constantly fights with his conscientiousness and tendency for self-discipline. Still a young adult, an adolescence, he faces the many trials and tribulations that the teenage years bring--like any other. Idealistic, impatient, and bashful – these aspects of Okewa can often get him into trouble as it’s usually coupled with blind courage and melodramas. His curiosity and thirst for experience can often lead him astray, as at times, his zealous youth can lead him to believe (either by others or himself) foolish things. As much as his pigheadedness is often the cause of his problems, its also usually the one thing that allows him to overcome any confrontation, as even after being told repeatedly that it’s infeasible, impossible, or unavailable--Okewa will try anyway.
His unpredictable behavior often leads many to believe he isn't in control, and that he is reckless, when it in fact that couldn't be further from the truth. His nature is one of control, steadfast and resilient, and he couldn't remember a time where he has ever felt out of control--and if one were to cause him otherwise they would be achieving quite a feat. On this end of the spectrum he exerts traits of a true Apollonian--ordered, self-controlled, possessing clarity and the power of mind. However there are those aspects of Okewa that are compelled to celebrate creative chaos, intuition, intoxication and nature like a Dionysian, something that surfaces on occasion. He pertains a great connection in both pleasure and pain, in sensation and sensitivity to the environment around him. His sensitivity to his spiritual nature and environment is perhaps the sole-reason has been able to come so far as a shinigami in such little time.
Okewa has a number of quirks, namely always forming an emotional attachment to items of importance, collectibles, etc. Due to the circumstances of his death Okewa runs a peculiarly high body temperature and has fleeting sensations of burning skin on occasion.
◙ HISTORY:
Okewa was born into a era that he wasn't meant for - years ago during the middle ages. It was a scary time for those who were different as the unknown had never been more feared. Heretics and "workers of the devil" were killed faster than they could protest their innocence and Okewa and his family had experienced this barbarity first-hand. In his village it was commonly accepted, and whispered, that his family were part of a secret coven of witches and warlocks. Despite never having proof of such, they were ostracized by the mere connection of such rumors. So when two girls went missing in the woods one night to never be found, and an eye-witness comes forward claiming to see a male and female that looked like Okewa's parents--it became apparent that his fate had already been decided.
His memory of his death at the tender age of ten is vivid in memory, something rare for someone when they become a shinigami. He remembers seeing his family lined on crosses next to him, in a row like pigs on a spit, as flames fueled by dry wood and combustibles licked up his legs. He remembers hearing the screaming, both of his family and the chanting mob that had captured them from their home and hung them there. He remembers feeling the power of the sun eating him whole, and then nothing. Whatever the ignorant had believed back then it had seemingly accelerated Okewa's true destiny - becoming a shinigami. Despite his many years he holds strong memories of certain periods in his life. For instance, he remembers growing up in District 3 in West Seireitei living a quiet life for many years in his youth. His parents were kind, compassionate and simple people. They enjoyed the life they had, the life they understood.
But Okewa knew he was meant for more as countless situations of him growing up alluded to such. He remembers hearing the call of his Zanpakuto years before he even knew what that was. His spiritual power and sensitivity grew as his years grew and not before long his parents enrolled him into the Shin'ō Academy--suspecting that their sons spiritual power was something they couldn't contain any further. His talents within the arts of Reiatsu control were highly noted by his peers. Though he was no prodigy, he was incredibly gifted and ahead of others in certain aspects of shinigami arts; his origins and history proving to fascinate teachers and some took interest in his gifts. A top 3 student during his academy years, he had completed many of his courses in a decent amount of time, not even having to wait six years.
Eventually he worked his way up the ranks, and was bestowed with the position of Juubantai Taichō.
