chameru is a bit of an oddity in the seireitei. having fallen madly in love with the culture of the modern world, she really tries to style herself in the vein of a material-world teenager rather than a respected member of a spiritual army. given her propensity towards the outlandish, she tends to stick out like a sore thumb. she, of course, loves the attention her rather unconventional looks garner her. she doesn't really realize that the whispers and stares are usually not out of admiration or appreciation.
her naturally black hair bores her to no end and she is constantly stripping it of its dark color and dying it a playful, bright pink. while choppily cut in the front, the back of her hair is incredibly long, reaching down to just below her waistline. she rarely wears her hair down, however, save for maybe the baths or when she is in bed. instead, she keeps it wrapped up and pinned; to those who have never seen her with her hair down, it resembles a messily-done bun.
when she is able to - outside of important meetings, for example - she likes to adopt the garb of the modern teenage girl, as well. some of her favorite outfits are school-girl uniforms, although hers are custom made, given her lack of actual human schooling. unfortunately, she is generally expected to don the traditional uniform of the gotei 13. of course, chameru wouldn't be herself if she didn't mess with tradition a little bit; her uniform is unique in that the sleeves of her robes are much longer than average and extend several inches passed her fingertips. she also sneakily wears her modern clothes underneath her uniform.

HISTORY:
chameru fuun was born into the northern rukongai, district eight and the eighth child born into the fuun family- she's considered the number eight her lucky number ever since. the fuuns were nothing special really, what with no ties to nobility or financial wealth, but were fortunate enough to be living in one of the safer areas of the outer city that they considered themselves plenty rich. the family was incredibly close to one another and chameru, especially, was considered a joyous treasure. she was never made to do any work, unlike her siblings, and was generally left to play with the other children in her district. it was a wonderful and carefree life.
as she got older, chameru less enchanted with the quaintness of her boring district and became more and more adventurous. one day, while her family worked, she led a group of children into the ninth northern district. it wasn't much different than their own but the adventurous fuun was enamored with even the tiniest differences. from then on, she would lead her crew further and further away from the eighth district. arriving home later and later each day, her parents had a sense of where she was wandering off too and warned her of the dangers that lied in the outer districts; their concern, however, did little to curb her growing curiosity.
each day she would go further and further along; her childhood playmates, fearing for their lives, would drop out one by one the further they delved into the rukongai. by the time she had managed to get to district thirty, the fuun girl was the only remaining adventurer in her group. by now, there were few shinigami standing guard in the streets and even their presence did little to quell any hostility between the rukongai citizens. chameru wasn't particularly concerned for her safety, but was beginning to feel some minor pains in her stomach but she refused to halt her expedition. she pressed onward.
she had managed to get to the fiftieth district before she could no longer go on without getting something to eat. of course, being in one of the poorer districts in the north, there was little food to eat nor was there much help from the spiritually aware. but she was sure that she was too weak to make it back home alone. then, to make matters infinitely worse, a group of district fifty thugs had decided to pick on the young spirit. they were ugly and filthy but also much bigger than she was. and they had knives. she tried to run but the men were catching up. then she tripped. what was she going to do? she was sure she was going to die.
in a last ditch effort to save her life, chameru mustered all of the strength she could into her legs. she had managed to stand up; then she had managed to move forward; then, out of nowhere, the earth exploded beneath her feet; then, the world went black. when she finally came to, she was back in eighth district. according to her mother, chameru had managed to release enough spiritual energy to carry her from the fiftieth district to the fifteenth. on-duty shinigami saved her life that day. they also wanted to take her into the seireitei to train at the shinigami academy once she had gotten more rest.
that was decades ago. just a distant memory. now, chameru fuun is the "super important, highly respected, almost head" (her words) of the eighth division. in reality, her time at the shinigami academy, and then the ranks of the gotei 13, have shaped her into the vice-captain of the eighth division.
