It was all over the news. New York City getting destroyed by seemingly invisible forces, people disappearing seemingly out of thin air with no traces of their body or location left behind, and strange blasts of energy rippling through the air. It was as if every single conspiracy theory had come true, and Anders was stuck right in the middle of it. The most incidents were recorded in and around New York City, which wasn’t too far from Anders’s home: Larchmont, New York. Still, even with all of the crazy events happening, Anders managed to keep his head on straight. In fact, his parents saw it best if they all took a little vacation, something to get their minds off of the chaos and mayhem. Italy was their destination, and it was a terrific one at that. The country was absolutely beautiful, especially the city of Venice. The city bled with rich culture, the people were friendly and the food was fantastic. Really, in the midst of it, Anders nearly forgot about the strange people he’d be seeing out in the middle of the night as well as the terrifying black, masked monsters that stalked in the darkness, waiting to pluck ripe, delicious souls right out of their human prey.
He still didn’t know what those strange-clothed people or those inky demons were though.
Sighing, the twenty-two year old stared up at the starry, night sky. He seated himself down near the canal, his feet dangling over the canal’s edge. No one was nearby, leaving Anders to ponder in relaxing silence. He had just recently discovered that there was something … different about him. While Anders wasn’t sure what it was, he knew that whatever it was, it wasn’t natural. He shouldn’t be seeing “invisible” people flying through the air or masked demons prowl through alleyways. “Just what in the world is going on…?” Anders thought, burying his face into the palms of his hands. He inhaled deeply then exhaled. Running his hands through his greyish-white hair, the dark-skinned male stared down at the water below. Light danced on its surface, both from the streetlights and the stars above. “I’m going to have to figure out what’s wrong with me. I have to. I would think that I’m just hallucinating but … I can’t be. Those people and things; they are too real. They have to be real. They have to be.”
He was going to drive himself insane at this rate.
The engineering student's stomach growled. Anders twisted his lips. Food did sound good right about now, just the thing to stop him from losing his mind.
