MEMOIRS OF A CORPSE
01
It all happened in a single bright flash of light. My eyes wanted to close, but the pain was offset by the brilliance of what I saw--of what I felt. I still remember the fire of her sword in my stomach, the strength of her people awakening my blood.“You will be great some day, Mil,” I remember my father saying, when I was but a child.I looked at him, smiled, and said, “I’ll never be as great as you, da.”But that single flash of light changed my mind. I was as great as him, or perhaps greater still. Or maybe I was wrong. Maybe this is what he meant all along.NAME: Millard StarkALIAS: Mil ; Winter WilliamsAGE: 31RACE: Deputy ShinigamiALLIANCE: VagabondDIFFICULTY: HardAPPEARANCE: Winter’s appearance now fits his new name. When he became a shinigami and his full power was awakened, it changed his human body. Red hair became white, pale skin became tan, and brown eyes turned ghost grey. He’s in the best shape he’s ever been in, and stands roughly at six feet and two inches. Winter carries himself with a reserved air, and is careful not to give away much of himself through body language. Everything about him is subdued, to a point. What he wears changes on a day to day basis. He has to keep variety in his wardrobe, should he need to change identity.PERSONALITY: Cold and practical are the two words that describe Winter. He doesn’t believe in needless drama or romantic ideas. As a former green beret, he’s seen the dark side of the world, and knows that most people are pigs in disguise. Things such as rape, murder, and torture no longer mean anything to him. Death is but a portal into a life far beyond that of human comprehension. As he is now, Winter is only a man who wishes to survive to the next day, and his only drives are those of food, water, and shelter. He’ll do anything he needs to achieve those, no matter the cost.HISTORY: Millard Stark was an exceptional military man. He became a green beret after his first two years in the service of the United States of America’s army. Ever since he was a child, he had a bit of a sixth sense. He heard voices and saw shadows that shouldn’t exist. Despite this, he never talked about it; people thought he was crazy when he talked about it.As a member of the army, he killed his fair share of people. Sometimes those people haunted him. His dreams became nightmares, and even his day to day life was ruined as the bloody ghosts of dead targets tormented him. Eventually this all came to a head on a certain mission in the depths of North Korea’s jungles.Millard could never explain what it was he saw that night. It’s the reason he went AWOL and created a new identity for himself. The beast’s head was covered in an ornate skull, and it was immune to any bullet or grenade he threw at it. In a battle lasting one hundred and twenty two seconds, it had killed all nine men under his jurisdiction, slaughtered a village, and stabbed him through the chest. Before it could finish the job, another shadow, one that wielded a sword, appeared and engaged it. That battle lasted twenty five seconds, and in the end the shadow was bit in two.But not before she stabbed him through the stomach with her sword.Everything after that happened too fast to be properly remembered. North Korean authorities were swarming the village and found Millard surrounded by corpses. They attacked him, and with the strength and speed of a superhuman, MIllard killed every last soldier there before disappearing into the night.Unable to return to his new life, he began a new one, left to eternally search for the truth of what happened that night.
