Kawa Shimizu
Yonbontai-Taichou
She felt as though she were hanging on by a mere thread, an aged, dainty, nearly torn single piece of thread, weighed down by every negative thought, every form of regret, every fabric of hatred and anger and torment that threatened to drown her consciousness. Still, she hanged as tightly onto what was left of her own sense of reality by gripping onto the one emotion she knew she could always rely on... this figure before her wasn't her... it couldn't be... could it?
Was that all there was within her; darkness? Was she merely a masochist, born to drown herself in her own sorrows, negating any form of aid or pity or any positive reinforcement from those around her, pushing away any sort of connection, any form of relationship, merely because she... she... no; she didn't want to live like that. She thought she had to, and she thought she had long since accepted it... but... but she was... in actuality, she was just...
>>“Not you? Ha, let’s see if--”
A warmth enveloped her body, releasing the immense pain, tension, and cold in a mere instant. The sense of relief was so overwhelming, the young doctor felt her head rush and her consciousness lighten, all but for an instant. A wave of purity opened within her chest as she felt that warmth stretch into her vision, placed upon the back of her hand, as an azure hand squeezed ever so gently against her own. Ebony tears continued to fall as her shadowed eye turned up to find the fox spirit next to her, showering her with warmth and filling the emptiness within.
>>“You’re right, Kawa-chan. You’re not him. Remember your name. Remember who you are.”
"Mizu...kitsune...?" Kawa's voice was crackly and barely audible as the spirit's long strands caressed her features, her mere presence enough to filter the weighted pain. "I-"
BONK
"Ow..." the young doctor rubbed her head as she nearly toppled back upon her office chair. The noblewoman hastily began rubbing the reddened area with her hand, blinking her own office into existence. The transition had appeared like one dream to the next; never knowing when one had stopped and when the other had begun, but merely... understanding, or perhaps, believing that she had been here, with Izumi, all along. Only a faint sensation of deja vu, or perhaps some similar sensation, triggered her momentary freeze. "W-wait... wha-"
>>“Kawa, didn't’t I teach you to always breath, no matter what?”
BONK
"OW!" Kawa brought both palms to her forehead as she attempted to shy away from the senile, old woman. "Are you insane; you're gonna- OW! Damn it, stop you old ha-OWW!"
>>“So why are you not breathing? Are you so sexually frustrated that a man gets you wet enough that you forget what I taught you, Kawa?!”
Once more, she came to a freeze, mouth partially open to speak, but no words, no thoughts came to her. Realization sank through, as once more, Kawa became aware of her dream. Her eyes fell upon the elder woman, her chest tightening in an instant at the thought of her no longer being there. Despite how much she pushed people away, no matter how much she attempted to piss everyone around her off to the point where they'd just leave her be, Izumi had been the only one to not only put up with her, but remain an ever constant in her life.
Stop
There it was again... through all the voices that crept through her mind, tens of thousands of voices that seemed to mix and intertwine into a mess of jumbled, rushed, shouting voices, one constant word was ever spoken... stop.
The young doctor did just that; stopped everything. Blinking those teal colored hues twice, Kawa took in a deep breath, closing her eyes for just a moment, held it in briefly, then slowly let it out. Along with the exhale, she felt her stiff shoulders loosen, albeit slightly. Another breath in brought the cold air to sting the back of her throat, but the exhale brought moisture to her dry mouth, and once more, she felt her worries lessen. Her thoughts became less jumbled; like a rippling puddle after allowing it a moment to settle, her mind became a bit more clear with each breath she took.
"God, you're annoying..."
