Shizuka gazed around. There wasn’t really anyone in sight. This small park did have quite a few trees, yes, but she had not heard anything either, so she figured that no one was there, at least by now. At nighttime, there weren’t many trainees or whoever jumping through treetops after all, and she quite doubted that anyone was playing night guard for this place. So it was perfect for this little experiment. It wasn’t quite illegal, no, but she just knew that people would give her the oddest glances if they caught her doing it, so she preferred to do it at night. And she did not exactly want to get an aquarium just for this little test.
The fishes in the small pond were not the expensive kind, either, but just some random animals that had come to live there on their own volition. She kept telling herself that, at least. Her shikai was already active, glowing slightly, somewhat complementing the crescent moon being reflected in the water. She could see the fish swimming there, at least some being obviously curious about this gentle new light.
Taking one more deep breath, Shizu prepared herself. Then she used that speed she had gotten during all her training and quickly reached into the water, catching a fish. She did not pull it out, though. Quite to the contrary, she pushed it down some more, making sure she had it underwater, before bringing her blade down on it.
That blow was not deadly, of course. That would defeat the point. She just needed to know if water, the element opposing her fire, would douse the flame and prevent the whole healing, or be evaporated instead. And to do so, she just had to stab a fish underwater. It would likely die to the shock, but she was still intent to check this out, keeping her fully engulfed in the ordeal happening below the now bubbling water.
