Dark, deep-set circles lay under her eyes. A normally composed and graceful woman, Reisha was a mess. With the ex-Captain Shimizu gone, the division rested on her shoulders. On a daily basis, wounded were being brought in. The death toll continued to increase. Her division was filled with nothing but corpses and weeping comrades.
Reisha sat in the privacy of her own temporary office. Slumped against the wall, she allowed her head to hang. Wide eyes stared at the ground, threatening to burn with tears. She was tired. Sleep had evaded her for three days now. With a rare day of calm in the Yonbantai, she still couldn't find peace. "Taichou, why did you leave?" she asked herself in breathlessness.
Deciding not to wallow in despair, lest someone find her, she stood up and sucked in a deep breath. No one had ever seen weakness in Reisha, and it was a good thing they hadn't. The division needed someone like her. They needed someone who responded to tragedy and calamity with a polite smile and orderly instruction. Kawa had been so good at it, and without her presence, Reisha was left to fill the role.
"Let's go get some air, Rei." She slid open her door and stepped out into the hall, smiling warmly at anyone who passed her by. A sullen silence filled the halls, and Reisha did her best to keep the air positive. Once outside, she made her way out onto the streets. It wasn't until she heard a loud commotion by the North Gate did she furrow her eyebrows and head towards it. A crowd of over one hundred Shinigami circled something, and she felt her heart drop, knowing what lie in the center was anything but good.
