There weren't many times that Kureno was offered a breather from his work these days, in between being Gundanchou, practising and perfecting his skills, as well as working on bringing Youshanai Kyoufuu into existence. Such work could and would put quite the strain on a Shinigami, so whenever he gets the opportunity to take a breather and actually be slack, he’ll take it.
Wearing his original Shinigami robes, complete with a badge-like item that carried the character for “Roku” or 6, signifying his ties to the Sixth Division, on his person but hidden by the robes. As he was not on duty right now, he saw no need to wear his Riteitai uniform, which in itself would have concealed his identity. Such was the life of one in the Onmitsukidou: people outside of the organisation could not be made aware that he was in fact one of them. His position as Gundanchou had further stepped up security in that only his division knew he was in charge.
Given that those who worked in such a secretive position were indeed more formidable than the average Shinobi, it was a requirement that Kureno suppressed his reiatsu to a level that was more fitting for an Unseated member of the Rokubantai. It wouldn’t do to go waltzing around with a spiritual pressure that rivaled Lieutenants while not being Seated. Questions would be asked, and suspicions raised… and that was certainly not what Kureno wanted. Least of all on his break.
Onto the matter of his time off, Kureno simply sat down next to one of the trees and relaxed, looking to catch some sunshine and maybe even some rest. The sky seemed peaceful and made him feel rather carefree, and made him remember that all things as a Shinigami were not all business. In fact, he was pleased he brought some sake along for a quiet drink. Usually he’d drink with fellow Division Six members, or s own Riteitai personnel (incognito of course), but today seemed right for a quiet time and a reflection of the centuries that went by.
A lot has happened since he died.
