THE ESPADA

After the shinigami’s own Slashing Opera, the Hollow Kingdoms of Hueco Mundo were left in ruins. Once there had been dozens, each ruled by a powerful Vasto Lorde and each more grand than the last. Once the dust settled, there were none. The hollow were faced with total annihilation, and it was on the brink of extinction that they were left. But what the shinigami did not understand was that hollow were survivors. They always evolved to face whatever obstacle that rose before them. This was no different. 

It started with one hollow, who removed his mask out of rage. The fragments became a weapon not unlike a shinigami’s zanpakutou. Another followed, and another, until a ripple of evolution spread across millions. And millions died as well, failing the evolution and adding to the ashen dunes of Hueco Mundo. But from the thousands that did survive, a new force blossomed. Through civil war, ten arrancar rose out of the bloodbath to instill order to the sands. A revolution took hold of everything, and the newly crowned Espada began a new civilization. 

The Espada are the ten greatest arrancar. Each one is numbered, and the lower the number the stronger and more important the Espada is. Each one also holds a title that tells their part in the birth and progress of the new hollow world. When an Espada dies, the title is given to their murderer, along with the number in question. Or, if need by, the Espada will convene as a council to choose the successor to the name. The titles are as follows. 

• The God of Nights, who rules the heavens and moon. Only a Vasto Lorde-class arrancar or an Espada numbered from Cero to Segunda can hold this title.
• The God of Echoes, who rules the underground. Only a Vasto Lorde-Class arrancar or an Espada numbered from Cero to Segunda can hold this title.
• The God of Dunes, who rules the deserts and mountains. Only a Vasto Lorde-class arrancar or an Espada numbered from Cero to Segunda can hold this title.
• The Dead Priest, who unites the kingdoms in worship of the gods, the moon, and the dead.
• The Predator, who leads massive colonies of hollow and arrancar on hunts for foes and information in all three realms.
• The Goaler, who controls the massive underground prisons that the Espada use to imprison the rebellious and their foes.
• The Bloodied General, who maintains and leads the armies.
• The White Sage, who educates the race and maintains the progressive culture.
• The Madman, who creates the technologies needed to progress the race.
• The Knight, a hero of the arrancar that the Espada use as both their face and champion. Only the Novena Espada position may hold this title.
