Little is known of the past of GYOKO TANO. Most records of most intervals of interest in his life have been lost in the collateral damage of the Slashing Opera spilling into the Seireitei. What is known is that he originates from Rukongai 2 East and was a fisherman in a village there before he was a student in the Shin'ō Academy. It is worth noting that he was forced into the Shin'ō Academy following an event in which his reiatsu surged and destroyed two thirds of his village. He was unruly in his early years of the Academy and held in the first year for three years. On the fourth year, he began to excel and by the time he was in the Fourth year curriculum, he was boosted into the Hachibantai without having to finish his time at the Shin'ō Academy. Information is lost from here. It is known from common knowledge that he eventually attained the role of Fukukidōchō before the Slashing Opera began.
After the conclusion of the Slashing Opera, Tano was one of the few surviving Shinigami of high-rank and during the reorganization period became the Gobantai Taichō. He is revered throughout the Seireitei by the survivors of the Slashing Opera as a brave war general and by the younger Shinigami as the current Headmaster of the Shin'ō Academy.
Growing from simple means and beginnings, he values the opinion of everyone regardless of their backgrounds. He pays no special mind to the requests of elites in this regard over anyone else. He seeks to first listen to situations before speaking and when speaking, doing so in such a way as to include the input of all involved with him. He values respect over all over things and doesn't tolerate those who would disobey these common rules of conduct.
A notable quirk about Tano, despite his lofty reputation, is his alcoholism. Tano is commonly found passed out in the mess hall of the Gobantai barracks and when not passed out and inebriated has a propensity to make sexual advances on pretty much anyone around him. It's damaged his reputation slightly, but not enough for anyone to question someone so decorated. At most, it results in common whispers about him. Tano adores old western movies and modern human drama movies. He is particularly fond of human techno music and in stark contrast, blues music. His favorite food is pork buns which he drinks with beer.

HOMOSEXUAL
Tano is a man who's gone through many phases of being. Once a simple man in his beginnings, he has evolved into an honor-bound Shinigami to a wartime general to a nurturing teacher. He embodied many traits all varying with the general circumstance he finds himself and those he protects in. Most younger Shinigami regard him as a kind man who is eager to teach and help them fulfill their potentials. To Shinigami who are veterans of the Opera, he is respected for making difficult split-second decisions in the midst of war when the leaders of two divisions had already been killed. His leadership saved many lives and his bravery is second to few within the Seireitei. Shinigami of like age to him, though few still exist, know him for being a calm and playful man, quick to laugh and jest.MITSUO
