Katsuki Akiyama
[attr="class","kico"]
medium • gobantai • seat 14 • female • 106 • Kaki
[attr="class","khead"]Appearance.
[attr="class","kbody"]Katsuki may be over a hundred years old, but she does not look it. Give or take a few years, she looks like she is no older than eighteen. Her thin frame, large eyes short height give off that impression. The shinigami stands at 5’3” and she weighs 119 lbs. Just looking at her it would be hard to tell that she is combat ready. Her torso and arms are thin and slender, and it is obvious that she does not exercise as much as she could. Her legs are toned enough from all the running around she does, but unlike her peers, she has not trained her legs either. She has a scholar’s build with moderate curves.
Green. Verdant. Naturely. Both her hair and eyes share that same color. Her eyes resemble round emeralds. They each have a tint of blue to them, but it is so insignificant that anyone looking at her would say they were pure green. As for her hair, it is a vibrant green. That hair of hers is cut short, with the front reaching her shoulder while the back is raised a little higher than that. She keeps her bangs long enough to just barely cover her eyes. When she is embarassed or uncomfortable she uses her her bangs to block her eyes and brushes the hair at the side to block her face.
Because she is a shinigami, Katsuki is unable to show off her taste in clothing. Accenting her hair and eyes, she prefers orange and yellow clothing when she is in a good mood, and then darker blues when she is feeling less than that. Yet, she is only ever seen wearing the uniform seen on any other officer in the Gotei 13. If anything shows these interests on a day to day basis, it could only be her glasses which are usually framed with a solid color, but a color that matches her mood that day.
The glasses are not needed for most of the work that Katsuki performs. Without them, though, she cannot see clearly within a foot of her face.
Katsuki wears the shinigami shihakusho as is instructed. All of the pieces are in their proper place, and she does not take any liberties with the outfit, not including what was previous said about her glasses. However, she does not secure her zanpakuto like most others do, with it pinned close to her side. The weapon is bound to her waist by a thin rope allowing it to swing freely behind her while she is moving, and at her left side when she has stopped.

[attr="class","khead"]Personality.
[attr="class","kbody"]A sanguine personality hidden behind a lack of confidence is the best way to describe Katsuki.
A sanguine character is one that experiences quick bouts of emotions and feelings. They are only bouts because they do not last long. Katsuki is like that. She can be excited easily, and she will be the first to jump to an idea. If something is intriguing to her, she will place all of her energy into it. Pleasure, happiness and fun compel her, and she will continue to do activities as long as they give her those feelings. But at the same time she is quick to get bored and quick to forget how something made her feel. She may have been having fun doing something countless times, but eventually her motivation dries up and what she is doing becomes repetitive. This is to say that she is great at starting something, but terrible at finishing those same somethings.
But most people would not know that much about her. That’s because she does not pull attention to herself. While she may seek enjoyment in life, she does not have the confidence to do everything that she could. Before she does anything she will usually question who would it affect and whether she should really do what she plans to do. Though she has a colorful inner personality, her outer personality and the way she acts is usually counterproductive. She is indecisive, self-confident and hard to budge.
Those mixture of traits do her good and bad. Left alone, her colorful personality would keep her from getting too far as a shinigami. Because she would be losing interest of everything she does, it would have been difficult for her to get through the academy and to complete her work. But because she worries herself with her actions, she is constantly second guessing what she wants to do. Even if something bores her, she will continue doing it for no good reason.
The problem with that is that she also holds back most of herself. On the battlefield and at home she bottles how she feels inside, making her seem more apathetic or content than she actually is. She may seem like a hard worker, or a consistent worker, but really she is completely bored with what she is doing and would do anything else if she could bring herself to do it. Because of this she is proned to ranting and raging when she is alone, but she would never say what she says or thinks then to another person.
To release herself from inner turmoil, Katsuki frequently writes and draws. She has a diary that she writes in every night, but it is not just to record her day or her thoughts. In that book she also fantasizes and allows her latent feelings to run wild. What she writes are ramblings about clothing, romance, uncompleted stories and more. If she is allowed a day off, she will find a empty area of Seireitei to draw.
She is skilled and experienced in writing, but there is a misunderstanding that she also enjoys reading. Katsuki will read fantasy and romance stories when she gets her hands on them, but if given the choice she would avoid any and all informational or explanatory readings.

[attr="class","khead"]History.
[attr="class","kbody"]Life and then the afterlife for Katsuki has always been like a boat. Since the day she came into existence, her sail had been raised and she was pushed along by the wind. Though she wished to push this way or move that way, she had always allowed that wind to point her into the next direction she would face. That wind always guided her, and though she questioned it, she never went against it. That is the life she lived, and the afterlife for her that followed. If there was anything that remained the same all those years, that was it.
To get into specifics, Katsuki, when she was alive, lived in Kyoto japan. She was raised by your average nuclear family. She was your average little sister. She was an average daughter. She did well in school, but only because it was average to try to do well. Throughout sixteen years of life she had done what society and her family told her she had to. They didn’t explicitly say everything, but she always met their expectations. Never once did she try something against their will, and she even allowed herself to make friends and associate with people that she was not entirely interesting in.
Overall, during the first sixteen years of her life all she had done was live. The way she was living, no one would have guessed that sixteen years old was as far as she was going to go in that life. She had followed some ‘friends’ across some street, and that had been the end to it all. When she passed onto the afterlife she did not fully comprehend what had happened herself, and she did not know who else in that group had befallen the same fate.
She did not ask questions though. In the afterlife she was handed a ticket and made her way to where she was told.
The years that followed were spent within the Rukongai. Within district 18 of western Rukongai she did not have much to worry about. Life was not perfect, but it was better than those further into the district numbers. Within the Rukongai she continued her life in the same way she had done in the living. She did what she was told as she was told and even if she disagreed with what she was doing, she went along with it. She helped the people there, associated with them and worked hard, and then one day it was recommended that she try becoming a shinigami.
Katsuki did not really want to become one. She did not care to become one because she did not know what they were, beyond what she had been told. The requirements and the job still did not interest her. But because it was a recommendation, she did what the suggested and went along with it.
She certainly was not the top of her class. She proved average or sometimes above average in areas that involved physical fitness. Kido went better for her, and so did anything written. Swinging a katana around went as well as the physical fitness training. Overall she did not finish as the top student, but she proved skilled enough that she could become a shinigami.
The division she entered was decided for her. She did not have any reason to want any one in particular to begin with. Though it was certain that there were divisions that she was barred from, such as the 11th, because her disinterest in physical labor. She became an unseated shinigami within the gobantai, the fifth division.
There were no leaps from there. She did not train herself to perform some incredible feat that would get her seated and bump her up some seats. She did what she needed to, and any promotions that came from that were accepted only because they were offered. She started as one of the last seats in the division, due to her work, and then steadily was bumped up. Usually that happened when others left the division, were promoted or were defeated. Using this method, Katsuki has, after many years, managed to become the fourteenth seat in Gobantai. And that’s where she remains now.
