HISTORY:
While Japan is known for their sumo, this does not mean the world of kickboxing does not exist within these borders. Kickboxing is practiced by a small dedicated group in Karakura who wished to learn the practice and would teach it to their children. One such man was Hagarashi, Ken; though he lacked intelligence this man was one of the more honorable individuals you could meet in your lifetime. Ken was a respected member of the community with a dedicated soul to hard work; His wife was a woman named Mimi who unlike her husband was very intelligent, but wished to stay with her lover in Karakura and became a school teacher at the elementary school. They tried for many months to have children and finally Mimi became pregnant. The couple was simply walking down the street at night when a hollow attacked Mimi, they survived the encounter but the attacked scarred the baby inside, not the kind of scar one could see, a hollows scar is left on the soul.
A few months later, the child was born and named Mizuki. Mizuki's young life was nothing special, much like the rest of the children in his community he was generally happy and took a great interest in what his parents exposed him to. His father always conditioned him and taught him about kickboxing, he found the sport to be the gateway to his father’s heart and so as a young boy he loved anything to do with kickboxing. His father showed him as much attention as he could with the two construction jobs he was working and being away from Mizuki only made the time they spent together all the more special. Mizuki felt his elementary school years were socially awkward because of his mother being a teacher and her watchful eye hovering over him in her spare moments.
In this time though, the only thing he ever seemed to enjoy was his training. School was odd for him because of his circumstances and while he seemed intelligent enough to do the work he never spoke in class or tried to participate. He was quiet soul like his mother, but strong in his moral compass much like his father. He felt no need to show his hand to the rest of his classmates and many thought it was odd how he almost never spoke, even so he had a few friends from kickboxing who saw him often enough for him to feel comfortable around. He had a decent childhood where he would learn the foundation of kickboxing, something that would become his passion well into high school.
Mizuki was nearly entering high school. He was already promised a spot on the kickboxing team they offered at the school because of his strong presence in the lightweight division. In tournaments held around Japan he was winning his age groups without too much trouble and was showing to be promising as an actual career if he continued to train well through his 20's he could become a professional kickboxer. Mizuki loved the idea of getting to box for a living, however his parents reminded him of his need for a college education and their hopes that he would obtain a degree even if he did become a pro.
It was on no particular day however that he found himself in a very bad situation. The school bully had decided he wanted to make a victim out of Mizuki. The boy was large and stupid, and while he could push around some kids he was usually smarter than to try and take on someone who knew what they were doing. The boy threw the first punch; despite Mizuki's attempts to leave the situation the boy appeared desperate to assert his dominance over someone everyone knew to be strong. Mizuki made quick work of the boy; unfortunately the principle caught sight of Mizuki taking some very hard punches to the bully and separated them. When his father found out he used his fighting skills to show up a school bully he screamed and hollered.
Mizuki didn't regret what he did, and was annoyed with his father. He felt annoyed that he was being punished for an act of self-defense when he has almost never used this power unwisely. Mizuki and his father went to a department store for construction supplies. They were supposed to be grabbing a few things to fix up their training room. When he got outside however he was stopped by the bully. In the middle of the evening the boy who looked like he had certainly taken a beating was in front of him, only he had a gun this time. Mizuki realized he was in deep shit, the kid apparently didn't take being publicly humiliated very well, and Mizuki knew his dad would be out soon if he wasn't careful. He tried to get the guy to leave but it seemed clear he wasn't going anywhere without making a scene.
Mizuki's father came out only a minute later, though he wasn't sure who the boy was he was confused why he met him in the parking lot. His father wasn't aware of the gun, but quickly became aware when the kid moved the gun from Mizuki's hip up to his neck. While this kid seemed desperate for attention, Mizuki's father didn't look frightened or worried... no... he was pissed. Mizuki thought he had seen his father angry before, earlier that day when he was being scolded however this was a new level. The look in his father’s eyes translated to murder. Mizuki's father ran to the boy at full speed with the full intent on tackling the shooter to the ground. The surprise allowed Mizuki to break away from the boy and take the gun out of the boy’s hand. Mizuki's father took him down quickly, and the boy once again today looked defeated. Mizuki's father took the gun from Mizuki and threw it on the ground, scolding the boy for this kind of behavior.
The two were ready to go home, but the father’s idea that this boy had any sense of honor was proven wrong when the boy shot towards their backs. Mizuki was unharmed, but his father collapsed to the ground immediately. Mizuki was in a state of shock, he had no idea if his father was dead or alive. It is at times like these a fullbring will often take its form. The energy surging through his fists and around his legs was intense, the spiritual beings in the close area could feel a hollow like presence taking form. Mizuki felt true anger, and the kid had run out of bullets. There was a real death threat being brought across by the look on Mizuki's face, but his father was more important. People started crowding around, he came back to his senses but the boy was gone and paramedics were on their way. He was still in a state of shock but had no explanation for the feeling he felt earlier.
Luckily his father survived, however it came at the cost of his legs. He became paralyzed from the waist down and could no longer work on the jobs he was once so well known for. His disability has kept them in decent financial state and his ability to go back to college to get a desk job has been hard for him but as a man who has always been known for his honor has done it with a smile. He does not enjoy his work, but does not regret that day nor does he feel it was his sons fault. He has become a home person now, confined by his chair. He is obviously saddened by his current state as any normal person would be but knows he must be strong for his wife and son. Mizuki on the other hand was furious for a long time. The boy ended up in a detention center for as much of his protection as Mizuki's. He hasn't been able to get to the boy, which seems lucky for him.
Since that day he has felt this new power, he started seeing things and heard sounds he never knew existed before. It was not long before he realized that night changed a lot more than the life he knew, but he was introduced to a world that he never knew even existed till then. He didn't understand his power, nor did he seem to understand what he was until the day he got a good look at the monsters he kept hearing. A follow was in full view, but so was a man; this man was using strange powers he had never seen before but it seemed clear to Mizuki that this man was human. His name was Yoshi, an older fullbringer who had come to Karakura for reasons only he knew. Now that Mizuki understands a bit better what this world is like he can imagine something to do with power, but he never told Mizuki.
A desperate Mizuki wanted to know what this power he was sitting on for months on end actually was. What it meant, how he obtained it and what he could use it for. Over the course of about a month or two, all was explained to Mizuki. He now knew to avoid the hollows and shinigami alike. He knew to never approach the quincies (whoever they were) as well as not to really trust any of the fullbringers, not even Yoshi. It seemed like a strange world to live in but Mizuki needed something to keep him from the guilt that he feels over his father’s situation. He quit kickboxing as a regular sport of his to pursue this new world and also to study. He feels guilty when he's kickboxing, it is what led to his father’s impairment and while it seems to come to him in his fullbring; it is still a major feeling of guilt for him.
It was nearly three years before that he gained these powers and in three years he made slow progress. Now that he is a senior in high school he has many duties other than just school. He has come to the point where Yoshi felt he was no longer needed and left the boy to his own devices. He told Mizuki that what he came for he obtained long ago, he only stayed to train the boy so that he wouldn't hurt anyone with his powers. With the power of a completed fullbring at his disposal, he will defend himself if danger is near and will not be struck down by hollow or shinigami. He is not completely aware of the current situation, but works simply as a reaction based fighter who is not patrolling, not looking to save the world, all he wants is to be able to defend himself when danger is near.
