RYOHEI KATSUNAGA
Name: Ryohei Katsunaga Alias: N/A Gender: Male Appearance Age: 25; Real: 458 Birthday: July 22 | Sexuality: Straight Height: 6'1” Weight: 189 Alliance: Soul Society Difficulty: Hard |
apperance
Despite his real age, Ryohei's appearance is quite young, as he is often mistaken for someone of a lower rank than he actually is. The shinigami’s eyes are a golden yellow, almost resembling gold. Ryohei's hair is a natural dark purple. His medium-length hair is very soft and can be styled differently with ease. However, he has taken to wearing his hair so that his long bangs reach down in thin streaks over his face. The rest of his hair is seen peeking from the top of his head in a ponytail. Though there are times where he can be seen without his ponytail, where it reaches the upper part of his arms. His eyebrows are thin and expressive; and they are the same color as the hair on his head. His nose is small, which simply adds more youthful features to his boyish face.
Ryohei has his own style, still following the dress code but added a few things. First, over his shinigami robes, he wears a blue garment with yellow designs that flourishes throughout the fabric. This is what his most often seen whenever he is fighting someone. Over that is a scarf that hangs just below his chest. Holding it together is a small red ruby. His legs are white fabrics that are covered by his black shinigami robes. He also wears the standard sandals that are required for shinigami. He is usually seen wearing gold earrings.
personality
Overall, Ryohei is a pleasant guy to be around. He is calm, nice and thoughtful. He is always seen with a smile on his face and his sometimes seen around the Sereitei plating with children. It can be said that he is a protector of sorts to the helpless, not just defeating invaders of the Soul Society but also giving his time to help others in need. On the other side, he can be more mature than he looks, often giving wise advice to people who need it.
His calmness creeps into dangerous situations as well. In battle, his entire person is relaxed and calm, though he can be a bit chatty and often gives his opponent's advice on how to fight. He believes that one can achieve their highest potential in battle if they remain calm and steady during a battle, which can result in a victory. He is also very analytical, thinking of many different ways in order to defeat his opponent.
There are few who have seen him angry, in which he becomes even more deadly. It rarely happens, but it is possible. If he witnesses someone close to him dying like a child or loved one, his feelings will overwhelm him, almost like he is not the same person. His calm demeanor will go out the window and will be replaced with rage and hurt, furiously attacking his opponent until there is nothing left of him Although he is a forgiving man, Ryohei wishes death on all those who hurt others for fun.

history
As a human, Ryohei was a very popular kid, as he had a lot of friends, good grades, and participated in almost every sport at school. At home, Ryohei lived with his parents, who he gladly enjoyed being with him. Even with his little sister, Ayane. Late at night when he was walking home from the convenience store, he heard a cat cry. Looking around, he saw a small kitten stuck in a tree. He put his stuff down and climbed up to set it free. As Ryohei fell from the tree, the cat landed on it's feet and ran. Getting up while scratching his head, Ryohei felt an unusual sensation and turned around but saw nothing. He picked up his stuff and walked back home. Though the feeling never went away. This time he saw something, it wasn't clear but it looked like a monster with a white mask. He was scared and ran. The monster eventually corned him. It's hand swopped toward him
When his eyes opened all he heard were sirens. He slowly opened his eyes to see police men and a crowd of locals. Getting up he heard noises. Looking down there was a chain on his chest. "I'm sorry ma'am, he's gone." hearing his mom crying. Running over he saw his dead body, drenched in blood. Shocked, he ran as fast as he could away from it till he tripped and fell. He got up and saw a black swallowtail and stared until a mysterious stranger in black appeared. "Who are you?"
"I'm a Shinigami, I'll be sending you to the soul society." He drew his sword but Shin got up and grabbed his collar and pulled it down until they were at eye leveled. "Where am I? What happened? How did it happen?!" He didn't show much expression. "You are where you died, this is where you lived until you died. A hollow, a evil soul did this to you. Unless you want to encounter that again I suggest you let me do my job" He stamped his forehead with the back of his sword as he fell into a glow of light.
As a soul, Ryohei thought that his past life was a dream and simply ignored it. Ryohei now lived in the 1st District of Rukongai, with his parents and his older sister, Ayame. His parents and his sister were soul reapers, who were both members of the 6th squad, which excited him as a young child, as he thought that he too will become shinigami. As soon as he were old enough, His father taught them the basic skills of a shinigami, zanjutsu, kido, and close combat. Ryohei excelled in his zanjutsu training and his kido, but could not fight using hakuda to save his life, which made his family laugh at him. One day, there was an attack on the town by shinigami bandits who defected from the soul society. Ryohei saw his neighbors and friends get killed on the spot and could not take it anymore. With their training sword, Ryohei and Ayame went on the attack, but were easily defeated, and all were knocked out unconscious. As they woke up, the town was in ruins and they found their parents on the ground, lifeless. Their grandfather, who was a captain at the time took in the children to train them in the arts of the shinigami.
Every day for the next couple of years, their grandfather trained each child differently. Because of the whole ordeal with his parents, Ryohei distanced himself from his sister, which made him a little hostel at his sister. This also made him lack at his training as he didn't feel like doing it any more if he was just going to die. Soon his grandfather yelled at him, saying that he needs to stop feeling bad herself and suck it up and be a man. Ryohei being as he was, did not listen to him, but decided to fight anyways, not because his grandfather said so, but to protect those around him from ever getting hurt. As soon as they were old enough, Ryohei and Ayame enrolled in the academy together, not knowing the outcome of their training.
Most of the students wondered why he was so distant, it was because of his parents death. Though for being distant, he was an exceptionally good student. He knew the gist of everything. Hohou, Kidou, Zanjutsu, even Hakuda, because of his grandfather. The next year, he was placed in the advanced class. It was only a step higher of a challenge to him. While everyone else was struggling, he went through practice quickly. He had quite a bit of free time, and took up a calligraphy class on the side. The years flew by quickly for him. While everyone else dreaded the sixth year students' graduation exam, Ryohei was relaxed. The day came where they took the final exam. It was a "game" of capture the flag. The goal was to capture a flag from the Commander of the Onmitsukido. The first to capture the flag could choose their division number. The game started, and all of the students rushed forward, and they could use any means to get the flag, even to attack with their academy training swords. As each other student ran forward, Ryohei stood still and analyzed his surroundings. He watched the pattern of the target, then moved swiftly, managing to grab hold of the flag. Everyone, including the Onmitsukido leader, was astonished. How could he move so quickly to grab the flag? It was simple, he watched as the target moved to the left as people tried to get it from the right. All Ryohei had to do was go to the left. He gave the flag back, and went forward to each Captain, looking over each of them. He was given the chance to choose which Division he wanted to join. In honor of his parents, he chose the 6th squad.
Over the years, the sadness that he felt over his parents was soon replaced with new friends and his job. Especially, one girl named Yukihime who was part of the same squad as him. Over the next few years, he continued on getting stronger while also spending time with Yuki. The more time he spent with her, the more he let his feelings go about his parents and soon he didnt think about them anymore, all thanks to her. If he wasnt spending time with Yuki, he was too busy mastering his shikai, making sure that he had enough power to so he never had to lose anyone again. While on a mission to the World of the Living, they were ambushed by gillians. He tried to fight them off, but was too weak to do anything. He then witnessed Yuki on the ground, bleeding and losing her life. Before her death, she proclaimed his love for him. In a fit of rage, Ryohei took down two gillians before passing out and waking up back in Soul Society.
Learning that Yuki's death wasnt a dream, he was everything but sad or angry. Because of her, Ryohei learned that life was a precious thing and was just glad that she was in his life. Knowing this, he sought out to become even stronger than his parents; a captain. During his years, he rose through the ranks of the 6th squad, eventually landing a vice-captain's position. His captain was quite surprised and often praised him as his apprentice, following him into battle wherever he went. He asked his captain if he would help him obtain his bankai, which he eagerly agreed too, although warned him that it wouldn’t be easy.
After a few months, Ryohei learned how to finally communicate with his zanpakuto spirit, though was unable to defeat it no matter how hard he tried. But after learning that many shinigami were disappearing, Ryohei decided to do some investigating after learning that his sister was one of the first to disappear. Ryohei learned that it was his own grandfather who was abducting people, in an effort to raise his own power. Both Ryohei and his captain were in the midst of battle with his grandfather, with Ryohei getting the upper hand. Suddenly, his grandfather surprise attacked his captain, killing him. After gaining confidence from his captains words Ryohei unleashed his bankai, killing his own grandfather and saving his sister. The captain-commander commended him on defeating his opponent and recommended him for his former captain's position, in which he agreed to and ultimately passed.
Ryohei, now two months into his new position, felt good about himself. Knowing the many obstacles he had to face to get here. Although each and every day, he felt like he wouldnt be here if not for Yuki.
