Genius Intellect
Okutō has been known to spend most of his time reading encyclopedias and volumes that have to do with the workings of the worlds and Shinigami. For over a century he has applied himself daily to reading about the workings of the worlds so that he can have a better grasp of them. Having lived with the Jukan clan for so long, he's had access to even the most forbidden subject matter; that being said, it can veritably be said that there are few topics with which Okutō is not familiar with. His range of knowledge spans all things from human physics to cross-dimensional relativity. As a former member of the Twelfth Division, Okutō also has been trained to apply his library of knowledge to creating new inventions that can shake the very foundation of what some might call possible.
To add to his immense capacity for knowledge, Okutō has a photographic memory so he not only understands highly complex concepts, but also recalls even reading them, how they looked on the page and the line a single letter in a single word was on on the page. He can apply this photographic memory to things outside knowledge, such as combat--he can carefully devise a strategy to fight his opponents by recalling how they interact with others and move, etc.
Okutō only recently became a Shinigami; in fact, he's been a Shinigami for less than thirty years. However, he's lived more than three centuries in the southern reaches of the Rukongai fending for himself. That being said, he boasts an incredible reserve of spiritual energy. He only managed to stay alive for so long on his own by overwhelming those who might oppose him with his reiatsu. The pool he could pull from only grew as he began his century of training under Jukan Osei, his adoptive father. Now, as a Taichō of the Gotei 13, Okutō is known to boast a great sum of spiritual energy that must be repressed lest he affect the area around him. His reiatsu tends to brighten things around him as well as slowly heat up until the heat is literally oppressive.
Perfected Perception
Given his vast intellect, Okutō is a highly perceptive Shinigami. Having survived in the wilds of Rukongai for three centuries on his own, his ability to deduce the plans of even the most unorthodox fighter is second to few if any. He is capable of predicting the movements of a target based on the slightest movements of muscles viewed by ripples in the skin. Using his incredibly discriminating memory, he is capable of thereby mimicking an opponent's fighting style to near perfection. After training for a century under Osei, his spiritual perception has also increased. He is capable of sensing most sources of spiritual energy no matter how briefly they might present themselves, making him incredibly astute to treachery. His discerning eye is so piercing that it has been known to detect even those who boast being undetectable.
Expert Spiritual Control
Though he boasts a large amount of spiritual energy, having just unlocked his potential a century ago, Okutō has yet to master control over his spiritual energy. This is not to say he is to be trifled with in the field, however. A century training and reading about reiatsu allows him to boast a stunning library of skills. He is capable of performing several lower to mid-level Kidō without incantations and retain the normal amount of power behind them. His downfall in this field is his ability to repress his spiritual pressure. He can lower it to normal levels so he might seem to be a Shinigami below his station but he cannot completely hide his presence.
Master Zanjutsu Specialist
Even before being discovered by his adoptive father, Okutō boasted a near-perfect ability with the sword. He was capable of besting even trained swordsmen with his unorthodox methods. His skill only managed to increase after a century of formal training. Now, he is capable of taking advantage of the mechanics of formal swordsmanship and mixing such with the unpredictability of his unorthodox movements. He has also studied even archaic forms of swordsmanship so he can call himself a master of multiple schools of swordsmanship. As such, his skill in the art has expanded beyond the common knowledge of even the other Taichō, and he can adapt his Zanjutsu to handle even more situations than normal.
Okutō is capable of utilizing Hohō proficiently to cross large distances with relatively minimum steps. He is capable of keeping up with most Shinigami of his standing though he is by no means spectacular at this art. He can maintain high-speed movement for more time than the normal Shinigami.
Expert Hakuda
As a Taichō in the Gotei 13 and a well-versed researcher of fighting styles, Okutō is an extremely capable user of Hakuda. Extensive study and application of such study in the field have led him to a mastery that surpasses most other Shinigami.
KAGAYAKE, TAIYŌNOKANMURI

In the sealed form, Taiyōnokanmuri exists as a katana. It has a pristine white lacquered scabbard, a star-shaped tsuba and a white hilt.
SHIKAI
In the released form, Taiyōnokanmuri assumes some very fundamental changes. While the external aesthetics of the blade remain the same, the steel of the blade itself becomes very different. For one, the blade appears to bring light to whatever space it is in once unsheathed. Everything will look sharper and clearer, even more perfect in the pristine light emitted by the blade's steel. Interestingly enough, the blade appears to especially perceptive beings to not actually be physical, but instead an ethereal mirage of a sword.
Taiyōnokanmuri's power is drawn from the light of the entire world. While some Zanpakutō generate power, Taiyōnokanmuri can draw upon the energy present throughout the entire world to accomplish its goals. By being able to manipulate this much sheer energy, the feats within the realm of possibility for Taiyōnokanmuri is near infinite.
The base of Sōdaishu Taiyōkanmuri's power is the expansion of Okutō's influence. Whereas in Shikai he could only manipulate light within forty meters of himself, his influence now spans a five kilometer radius. Furthermore, he becomes capable of manipulating light on his own without aid of a Zanpakutō, a needed skill since the blade is absent during Bankai. This means he can form solid blades of light within his radius of influence during Bankai. There is also an expansion of power in his Bankai state that reveals the true nature of Okutō's light manipulation; he can now manipulate wavelengths of light outside of the visual spectrum spanning the entire spectrum. This is the true meaning of the sun motif of his Zanpakutō.

Asai KyūshūExpert Hohō
The Shallow Cut (浅い急襲) technique is a technique commonly used by Okutō when his opponent's guard is down. The technique is misleading because it begins when Okutō's blade is in close quarters with his opponent. A normal individual would be incapable of cutting into someone from such close distance because they would lack momentum. However, Okutō is capable of generating the necessary momentum and will cut into and through his target from a short distance. This technique has been called the sword-bearing equivalent to the one-inch punch in that it causes maximal damage from incredibly close range.
Ryōdan
Bisection (両断) is a kendō technique in which Okutō grabs the hilt of his sword with two hands and brings it down with enough force to cut his enemy in half. This technique is augmented by releasing a fair amount of reiryoku with the strike.

KAGAYAKE, TAIYŌNOKANMURI

Taiyōnokanmuri is a seemingly ethereal spirit. He has no physical body to be seen and levitates above the ground. Oddly enough, despite his ethereal form, he seems to wear a large flowing kimono depicting an autumn scene with a deep red hakama. He has long deep red hair which waves through the air as if through water and his face is not a face at all, but a mask depicting a white wolf with red accents in the ears and around the eyes. One stunning feature of about Taiyōnokanmuri is his teal blue eye color. His eyes are known to be visible even in the darkest light.SEALED FORM
Taiyōkanmuri resides in outer space. The only source of light is a single star in the distance that can grow in intensity based on his will. That being said, his world can span a gradient of light from complete darkness to being immersed in brilliant light.

Hareta Zanshu
Sunny Beheading (晴れた斬首) is the base technique of Taiyōnokanmuri's arsenal. Utilizing this technique absorbs a portion of light ranging from a single photon to all ambient photons within forty meters into his ethereal sword. This creates an actual blade composed wholly of light energy. After having done this, the concentrated light emitted from the sword is even more intense than when the Shikai was initially released. This is not the actual objective of Hareta Zanshu, however. The light energy within the sword transfers to much energy to any molecule surrounding it that they become super-heated and expunge any moisture from the area. This effect is dramatically felt in the very air as this tends to cause people in the area to immediately begin sweating (and then have their sweat immediately evaporate). When used against someone, the swords not only cuts but burns as it goes, cauterizing the wound and preventing the natural healing of the wound.
Tsuki Gyakusatsu
Moon Slaughter (月虐殺) is a technique utilizing Taiyōnokanmuri's ability to manipulate light. By bending light away from himself, he becomes capable of effectively hiding himself and anyone he includes in this technique from sight. There is no trace of them, including shadows. They can continue to make sounds and smells, even be felt or sensed but are completely excluded from vision.
Taiyō no Bakudan
Sun Bomb(太陽の爆弾) can only be used after Okutō has used Hareta Zanshu. After using the technique, he will disperse the gathered photons into the air, restoring the light to the area. However, all of these photons are tagged with his reiatsu. At his go, he can ignite these photons, causing them to rapidly explode. Since these are photons, components of light, predicting the location of an explosion is next to impossible without mastered perception. Okutō can guide the photons so that he can combine the explosive force of all of the released photons into one, creating a gargantuan explosion that can wipe out whole city blocks. The use of this technique is characterized by an initial burst of light that blinds all in the area for a moment.
Taiyō no Kodomo
Sun Children (太陽の子供) is a supplementary technique used by Okutō to create illusions. Like Moon Slaughter, Okutō bends light to create intricate illusions ranging from people to whole environments. However, these environments are only there in vision alone. They have no physical mass or other identifying properties, making them relatively weak illusions typically only used to fool those with their guards down.
BANKAI, SŌDAISHU TAIYŌNOKANMURI

Sōdaishu Taiyōkanmuri changes Okutō's appearance in a variety of ways. First, his eyes assume the electric blue appearance of Taiyōnokanmuri which are always visible, even in the darkest corner of the universe. In addition to this, Okutō's attire emits a brilliant light so bright that all those that view him are obligated to squint lest they damage their eyesight permanently. Okutō also adopts Taiyōkanmuri's ethereal form--he doesn't stand on the ground but hovers and his clothes seem to flow in a non-existent breeze. He also adopts a long mane of rich red hair similar to his Zanpakutō spirit. His blade completely disappears in this form.(Great Vermilion Sun Crown)

Taiyō no Osen
Sun Taint (太陽の汚染) is a special effect of tagging photons with Okutō's reiatsu in the Bankai state. If any of Okutō's tagged photons affect a target, a taint will enter the target's body. This taint acts slowly but is surely fatal if some sort of intervention doesn't occur. The taint will irradiate all the cells of the target's body slowly until eventually they all die leaving the target dead. The taint shows signs as soon as the photons affect the target. For example, if Okutō slices someone with a light-based blade, the taint will be spread to all cells adjacent to the cut and spread from there. If one is exposed to the taint by an explosion, all tissue exposed to the explosion will bear the taint.
The taint alters the genetics of the affected cells and will show first in intense burns followed by abnormal tumor growths. As the taint spreads, the victim will begin to be struck by disturbing hallucinations. It all culminates on the third day following exposure in which they have a vision of themselves ripping out their heart. When this occurs, the victim will suffer a fatal heart attack or simply succumb to the multiple growths and radiation poisoning.
The taint also introduces a fallout--any non-living molecules affected by Okutō's light will be irradiated and touching them will cause a transfer of the taint. However, the taint with this degree of separation will be non-fatal and only cause intense burns.
Sōsai-teki Kanshō
Destructive Interference (相殺的干渉) is the ultimate defense against Okutō's own Bankai. Being that he is not immune to the effects of Taiyō no Osen, Okutō must activate Sōsai-teki Kanshō immediately after tagging photons. This releases a constant wave of photons of the opposite phase as the photons that are tagged effectively nullifying them. This zone of interference only encompasses an area of one inch around Okutō so he cannot protect others with this. The only fail-safe passed this is the active controlling of the path of a controlled photon which takes immense amounts of concentration to do.
Taiyō no Gyakusatsu
Sun Slaughter (太陽の虐殺) is an expansion of Hareta Zanshu and Taiyō no Bakudan. Using Taiyō no Gyakusatsu, Okutō absorbs all the photons across the electromagnetic spectrum within his realm of influence leaving the area in complete and utter darkness. He doesn't condense the photons into a sword however (though that is possible), but instead into a single point that he seals so it cannot be restored unless he releases the seal. Even if he dies, that area will forever be in darkness.
This technique is a suicide technique in truth in that unsealing the conglomeration of light will cause the rapid expansion of all the light therein. Given the speed light travels at, this technique is next to impossible to escape. The sheer force of the explosion is enough to kill most but the addition of the taint adds fall out so this technique can affect a range even greater than Okutō's realm of influence. Not even Okutō's Sōsai-teki Kanshō is enough to nullify the effects of this technique--while he won't immediately die from this, he will die within an hour of the attack's release. The same cannot be said for others caught in the attack. They will be vaporized instantly.
