Instead, she just walked on ahead, onto the dull streets of this poor part of the rokungai. She’d been here on a patrol just a few months ago, before rising up to the rank of captain, and pretty much nothing had changed. There still were all but a few people on the street, and only those who had any business either getting out of this district, or back to their houses. Sorry places like this could only dream of having an economy, the most they had was a single, shabby store. Sure, it was big, because many people shopped there, but it was not exactly fancy. The only reason they could afford such a big store was because rents here were as cheap as the dirt the houses were built upon. In short, it was not the most pleasant of places. But the perfect one for someone without any interest in soul society to hide. And Ando, the man they were there to find, was such a person. She’d last seen him back on their last meetings, the final five survivors of their group. He’d told her goodbye, that he would not come back to the surface until he developed a weapon to really beat this kind of thing next time they met. Tachibana herself had only nodded at that. She knew he was a fighter, no mechanical genius or anything, but if nothing else, she could relate to his determination. She was driven by the same thing, kind of. And that was why they had come here. To meet him, and give him part of the tentacle she had managed to bring from her little field trip, held in the airtight container she’d made her lieutenant hold. Obviously, she had not told her what it was about at all, but she had told her it might explode if she dropped it. Just in case. |
