The Seireitei

THE SEIREITEI

The shinigami were not always known as the shinigami. Two thousand years ago, they were the balancers. Four thousand years before that, they went by another name, and thousands of years before that yet another. Every faction has been dominated by a different culture for one reason or another. But it was two thousand years ago that the shinigami rose, a japanese force that sought to do more then to keep the balance. They sought to end the war on hollows for good. The progress they made in the spiritual world was enormous. They created the Seireitei, a massive country the size of current day Mexico. They created a government, and they even went as far as to create a guard for the Spirit King--a deity older than man itself. 

Three hundred years ago they began their final push. Odashi Gufuu, the Soutaichou, had brought ruin to the Shinigami after a series of failed wars. Jukan Hinaai fixed this problem. She began the Slashing Opera, took the title of Soutaichou by force, and annhilated the enemies of the shinigami. But there was a heavy price paid. She died, along with the majority of the captains and almost every shinigami. It took one hundred years and forbidden arts to restore the Seireitei, and another hundred just to catch up to the modern era. 

Now the shinigami are led by the council of captains. Together the thirteen of them, whom have replaced the Central 46, seek to rule the spiritual realm with both peace and fear. They allow no rebellions and no alliances save for the one with the Quincy. And still they continue to build their forces again, hoping for another Slashing Opera to occur to end the war on hollow forever. 

Each captain leads a division, and each division has a purpose for both war and everyday life. They are as follows. 

• Ichibantai - Deals with funerals, festivals, and nation-wide events. During wartime, serves as reinforcements.
• Nibantai - Fused with the Onmitsukido. Deals with policing the nation and scouting out the other realms. During war, serves as an assassination and scouting force.
• Sanbantai - Entirely based on earth. Deals with hollow threats, spiritual human threats, and is dedicated to maintaining the ferrying of souls. Has no wartime purpose unless all other divisions have failed.
• Yonbantai - The medical center. Trains new shinigami in the arts of medicine and kaidou, and keeps Soul Society running through medical care.
• Gobantai - Controls the academy and the teaching of new shinigami. During wartime, they have no strict purpose other then protecting the new recruits and initiating a draft. This is the smallest squad.
• Rokubantai - Protects the nobles and civilians of the nation. Is the main police force, with he Onmitsukido serving as a special police force. During wartime they are strict defenders of the Seireitei.
• Nanabantai - Adds constant help to the Sanbantai in ferrying human souls. During wartime, is a squad for reinforcements.
• Hachibantai - Fused with the Kidoshu. Creates new kidou and protects the knowledge of forbidden spells. During wartime, they are sent out to use barriers and other magics to protect massive areas or to prep battlefields.
• Kyuubantai - Controls the Rukongai. Polices the souls there, and puts down any rebellions. 
• Juubantai - Controls the economy of the nation. During wartime they are the secondary defenders of the Seireitei, and add help to the Kyuubantai
• Juichibantai - The main army of the Seireitei, and the largest division. Led by the Kenpachi, who is the highest general in the Seireitei, as well as the strongest warrior.
• Junibantai - Dedicated strictly to the research and development of new technologies. Has no wartime duties other then adding intel to situations.
• Jusanbantai - Adds help to the Sanbantai. Reinforces any squad that requires assistance.
