ALIAS:The Demon Artist, Kidōshū Sōshi, Dai Kidōchō.Just some slacker.
RACE: Shinigami.
AGE: Two-Hundred, Eighty-Eight (288).
AFFILIATION: Seireitei, Kidōshū.
DIFFICULTY SETTING: Hard.
APPEARANCE: Smokey black and slightly unkempt hair, minimal stubble, eyes of crimson and a generally solemn facial expression or challenging grin are the general and most prominent physical features of the Kidōshū's most exalted officer. His cheek is scarred and his features are bold, his handsome is of the "rugged" variety. His body is average in most regards though his muscles are toned lean for endurance rather than bulked for pure brawn. Though his personal grooming oft falls short of a noble, his attire is a modest counter balance. While his style of dress is mostly functional his garbs themselves tend to be slightly more jazzy; expensive but toned down in color and design, regal but inconspicuous.
PERSONALITY: Like his father before him, Shi'Kuyo is an adamant believer in finding and upholding one's own sense of morality. Believing the laws and rulings of the Seireitei are not always what is actually right morally. He seeks to attain both power and authority to safeguard the morality of the Tokomaru House as well as the Kidōshū and by extension, the Soul Society. He respects the Goteijuusantai and on a personal note, the Soutaicho. However, he harbors no love nor reverence for the Central Yonjuuroku believing them to be hasty, inefficient, traditionalists.
A far cry from the predictably stuffy members of the Kidōshū, Shi'Kuyo has spent the entirety of his existence toiling along the path of Spirit Way. Having claimed the Fuku Kidōchō position as his own, he has become a paradox both lax and stalwart in regards to his favored art. His centuries of training with an emphasis on reiryoku and kidō and all the successes and failures that came with those years have left him very comfortable in his own skin. His duties are always carried out in full and with a smile that is genuine down to the core.
Grooming aside Shi'Kuyo is not without faults and has a hard time being punctual. Similarly, in a crisis he is not the first person to step up nor the first to abandon ship; he prefers to make his decisions as close to the wire as possible. Loyalty, teamwork and camaraderie are his social wheelhouse and he believes above most other things that "no one man is above the squad". In the end Shi'Kuyo is a man young at heart, old in soul, who follows the beat of his own drum. His drum just so happens to make a rhythm with that of Soul Society, forming a beat in the Kidōshū to knockin' to ignore.
HISTORY: Born unto a young Shinigami prodigy unlike none the Soul Society had ever seen before, Shi'Kuyo killed his mother in childbirth. His father was a pillar of the Seireitei's Military force armed with a unique zanpakutō and an unparalleled devotion to the demon arts. His mother however, was a scholarly Shinigami of Low Spiritual Power. She was not able to handle the High Spiritual Power her son had been born with. A Spiritual Power which had been building during pregnancy and weakening her gradually. At birth his reiatsu ran rampant crushing and suffocating his mother to death. His father might have saved her for not of her refusal to let go of the newborn.
Though he mourned the loss of her, his father never blamed him for her death. As the elder Tokomaru often cheekily claimed, his birth was the official moment the Tokomaru became a noble family rather than just a noble guy.
Despite the unfortunate circumstances of his birth Shi'Kuyo was a happy and considerate child. Though he turned out not to be the aptitude prodigy his father was, his mind and body developed at a modest rate. He came to understand early on that he had been blessed with power and that his failure to control that power enabled it to become a curse. He acknowledged that he didn't know any better and couldn't control himself but he was still the one mostly responsible for killing someone that his father loved very much, someone that loved him even more.
When he was old enough to survive it his father began to teach him suppress his reiatsu which in turn would strengthen his reiryoku and potentially expand his knowledge of manipulating the two.
Though not the caliber of his father he proved himself to be a prodigy in some regard after all. Simply put he took to reiatsu suppression quickly. More impressive, his reiatsu recognition was uncanny as though he was the plus of a bloodhound. Shortly after his mastery of control over his own Spirit Pressure his father gave him two gifts, the first was word that he would be enrolled in the Shin'ō Academy in a single year. The second was a keepsake; his mother's chronicles of his father's kidō studies. It was hand written and had not a single blank page left in it.
It was a gift that would change his existence. Whereas he'd learned to control his reiatsu to keep it from killing indiscriminately he could learn to control his very reiryoku to weaponize the same power source he'd been blessed with at birth in abundance.
However, with very little prior notice his father was promoted and he was left in the care of one of the more established noble houses to train in the demon arts and prepare for the academy. Though he managed to reach a proficiency in kidō equal to an academy graduate before his academy induction, many advanced mechanics of the art escaped him even with his parents' notes. His fixation on kidō and his surname name earned him a reputation he was too enthralled in studying to be aware of.
His father's plans to give him an edge against others in the academy backfired when Shi'Kuyo took the time he should have used to bolster his other skills (not needing to study kidō) to unlock the deeper mysteries of the Spirit Way.
As the first three years unfolded the Tokomaru became the academy's best kidō user across all years and classes. This earned him many an ass-kicking in the hakuda and swordsmanship classes, where his potential was noticeably absent. So much so did he lose in hakuda and zanjutsu that he began to develop notable physical endurance and eventually, he began to become competent with the fundamentals. Whereas his father graduated the academy in a prodigious four years, Shi'Kuyo took a solid eight before he was able to join a Squad.
In a rebellious bid to distance himself from the legacy of his absent father the new graduate turned down the Kidōshū seeking his skills and instead took an unseated position in the Onmitsukidō. For over one hundred years kidō was put on the back burner in lieu of improving his weaknesses, namely hakuda and to a lesser extent, agility and ability to perceive opponent's attacks and tactics.
Eventually, the matured death god gave into his passions and joined the ranks of the Kidōshū . Happy to simply get a check for studying the demon arts he never made an effort to attain higher seats. He simply took higher seating as they opened naturally, himself almost always being the one most qualified.
Now the Fuku Kidōchō, Tokomaru Shi'Kuyo has decided to pursue the only thing he has wanted since joining Kidōshū; to defeat the kidō Corps. Commander and take one of her titles as his own; not the title of Kidōshū Sōshi, 鬼道衆 総帥; the Commander and head of the Kidōshū, but to instead claim her title of Dai Kidōchō, 大鬼道長; the most powerful kidō practitioner in all of Soul Society.
