Out of all divisions the Gotei 13 contains, the Juuichibantai is closest to the rural beginnings of the original organization. Heartless killers and thugs was the composition of the elder days and you'll find more killers and criminals in the 11th barracks than in all the other divisions combined. Not united by a corps d'esprit like the other divisions, these men and women only bond over the lust for battle and bloodshed.



The division is also set up so that to become the Captain of the Eleventh, the candidate must do so through the third method of becoming a captain, killing the previous captain in front of 200 members of the Division, which is almost the entire Division.[5] Upon defeating the previous Kenpachi, the new captain takes on the name of Kenpachi (the best swordsman of each generation). Since the rise to captain status of the current Kenpachi, an unofficial rule has been added that says to be a true member of the Eleventh Division, one's Zanpakutō must be a melee-type.

Further, Kenpachi Jingu has outlawed the use of kidou in combat, a law almost redundant, considering no-one in the 11th has a grasp of demon magic to begin with. It goes to show, however, that the 11th is a bunch of sword-bearing fighters who handle things with their blades or die trying.

What's the 11th looking for? The Shinigami Newspaper's recruitment brochure asked a few questions to both their captain and fukutaichou. Read them below.

Shinigami Women's Association Aptitude Test
According to the Shinigami Women's Association aptitude test, those who are "vigorous" are best suited to this division, noting that with each passing year, the division is filled with even more Shinigami who would prefer a fight to a meal. The Association goes on to state that if you believe "might is right" then the Eleventh is the division for you. They also approve of the strong female role model that is Kenpachi Jingu.
