Coarse in her behaviors, Sam may be seem to resemble the "rebel youth" stereotype, but funnily enough, she is actually very rule-abiding. People are often torn between the conflicting impulses of self-expression and "fitting in", but uniquely for Sam, she embodies neither, as she does not possess an ego to derive identity from.
An introvert at heart with a denied childhood, Sam possesses a powerful instinct for survival, but at the same time lacks her own reasoning in doing so. In essence she is a lost lamb in a huge world, currently being guided by the Vatican for its own cause.
Considering herself to be a believer in the phrase 'life goes on', Sam's goal-less wander through life and incredible tolerance to suffering may seem uncanny to many, but to her it very much represents her last emotional defense, and this is where the hypocrisy starts.

Sam witnessed the death of her older sister Reo at the hands of an unknown male smelling of Sweet Alyssum when she was eight years old, and having no other family, she was immediately taken in by the Vatican to preserve and nurture her pure-blood lineage.
Deeply traumatized with seemingly nothing left for her in her life other than the present distractions the Vatican provided, Sam absorbed herself into its intricacies to avoid facing her depression.
Proving to possess a rare natural talent at the creative process of inventing things, she was reassigned to serve under a recently appointed Paladin Inquisitor, Gareth Van Helsing, as his assistant and apprentice to further herself.
It was there where Sam developed her designing skills, studied the supernatural, practiced in the arts of demon-slaying, and learnt of her own lineage blood power; the Schwarzer Nebel, or Black Fog, which granted Sam and certain things of her own making complete invisibility. This major discovery turned Sam into a major asset of the Vatican overnight.
On the more personal side, in her long time together with her mentor, Sam saw the complete separation in lifestyles he possessed between social charity and tasked assassination, and began to aspire. Aspire not for his higher status or fame, but for the glacial numbness he was able to call upon himself at times of need.
Years later, separated from her mentor and unwillingly promoted into a Paladin Inquisitor herself, Sam is now in the hard and confusing process of figuring out how to create and wear her own mask.
