Santiago fired two blasts from his starscream and brought the barrel to his lips. Through the smoke he could see droplets of blood moving down in thin rivulets, dark on the brick. In this broken part of New York City, the only sounds was the sizzling of a muzzle and the panting of a wounded man. I hit.

With deft steps, Santiago moved through the shadows and rounded the broken wall. The moon was covered by clouds tonight, and the only illumination came from the distant lights of the pieces of New York that still lived. They cast a faint glow on this alleyway, and in that glow was a dead apostle, a rogue quincy.

Dallard was not a handsome man. He was lanky and had hair so thin it seemed to Santiago that a glancing touch would break it. His eyes were closely set and beady, like a rats, and his upper teeth stabbed past his lower lip. The hole in his shoulder dyed the white uniform in milky black. In the darkness, it appeared to be as dark as Santiago’s own uniform.

“Dead Apostle Dallard McCain,” Santiago began, “your life is, as of today, forfeit to the holy church. Do you have any last words or prayers you would like to say?”

The starscream found itself pointed at Dallard’s head. Santiago’s finger caressed the trigger like a lover did a pair of breasts.

Dallard looked up, and tears and snot ran freely down his face. “I . . . I just wanted to be a part of something big . . . he told me we’d be ang—“

BANG!

Santiago rose his free hand to keep the blood from splattering across his face. “There are no angels, Dallard McCain.”

Reaching into one of his trench coat’s many pockets, Santiago pulled out a thin tube that glinted silver in the faint city light. He dropped it on the corpse, stuffed his starscream into his coat, and walked away with his hands sheathed in pockets.

“Take him back, oh lord of cinders, for air is your concubine and wood your paramour. Blau Brand*.”

Wish a long hisssssssssssssssss, Dallard’s corpse was consumed by blue fire.

• Blau Brand, or Blue Burn, is a ginto used by the First Apostle to destroy the bodies of their prey.

"I wonder if that is true," Ville regarded, watching on from the shadows of the alley. Santiago's analytical mind had given him that edge of a few seconds when it came to chasing the dead apostle, now laying within the streets, blue fire beginning to consume him. It filled the alley with another kind of glow, one that painted cold flames upon the Knight-Commander's face.

Not further entertaining her wonderous comment about angels and demons, she looked into the sky of the destroyed city. A few months ago the Quincy rebellion had first introduced their Vollständig technique and it had had the effect the Vatican's analysts had expected: everyone wanted a piece of the cake, and like beggars, they'd been drawn to the city in ruins.

Fallen Quincy, those flirting with the idea of betrayal and other supernaturally touched: the Hunting Apostle had more work than ever. Ever since her duel with Wolfgang, she had commanded her knights hot on any trail, hoping to uncover new secrets or information about the traitor knight's whereabouts - The Violate, as she'd come to know him, as she'd come to feel him. Their personal bout had added rejuvinated zeal to the Knight-Commander's mission, made it a vendetta.

Her own Starscream still holstered, Ville stepped up to Santiago's side. Had he been any other, with a less capable mind, she would've asked about anything the corpse on the floor might have yielded, before giving it to the cleansing fire of Blau Brand. But he was too intelligent to step ahead of that consideration, and in his intelligence, she trusted. Had there been anything to harvest, he wouldn't have jumped to burning the Scottish burn man.

The mocha-skinned female had no qualms when it came to trusting him, or letting him take lead in investigative situations. Even though she was stubborn and had her own amount of pride to deal with, the mission always came first. The men and women, the knights and soldiers of the Hunting Apostle, were composed of these traits; pragmatism was their leading principle. Out of necessity.

"Do angels not bring salvation, Santiago? We're the angels. But they force this role upon us. These demons that walk the garden of men, speaking of freedom, but bringing nothing but seduction..." she halted, her musing coming to an end. Philosophical differintiating wasn't required, only the calm realization of a world in which two forces fought for control. Don't question your enemies. Kill them.

She set her mind on the work at hand.

"Situation report."

Santiago looked over his shoulder as Ville approached and slowed his pace so that she could catch up. These streets were empty save for the few lost souls and wandering homeless folk, none of which were of any consequence. They were mice in a city filled with rats. Santiago and Ville were the exterminators called in for this task.

“You’re pretty talkative today, Le’Vailler,” he offhandedly said. Not that I mind it. “McCain didn’t know anything that we did not already. He dressed like a rebel, came to a rebel breeding site, and then died like a rebel without knowing anything.”

Santiago came to a stop underneath a broken stoplight. He looked up at it, wondering to himself how long it would take for power and order to return to this city. Human agents were swarming it with their own spiritual hounds, and rebel quincy were becoming as populous as hollow. Even shinigami were in abundance here, hiding during the day and hunting during the night. New York City had become a predator-prey environment, where all races were trying to claw their way to the top. Stupid, Santiago thought. He spit.

“Next target is Jason Edgers. He’s supposed to be a dangerous one.” Santiago pointed in the direction of a broken hospital. “There was some reishi left over in that building belonging to him. This section’s closed off, so he’s probably hiding in ambush somewhere.”

"This place smells fucking horrid, even in this shit hole of a human creation." Alrich grimaced as he shoved open a wedged door inside of a run down Hospital that he had been forced to enter. Gracie Square Hospital, it was called. And before it got its shit rocked, it used to be a psychiatric ward that housed the mentally ill and chemically addicted. Something that Alrich could never understand was how a person could be addicted to medicine. Or how humans could be so stupid to abuse its effects just to feel what they so believed was 'good'. With a grunt Alrich kicked some indiscernible object that caught onto his foot. Reaching into his jacket he pulled out a slender black object and with a flick of his thumb, a beam of light protrude from his flashlight as he quickly scanned the room. Looking over at the wall he found the item that caught his foot and shook his head to see that it was actually what looked to half a bicycle wheel.

"What the hell is that doing here?" He wondered out loud silently as he went deeper into the room, slowly making it to where he guessed was the lobby or check in area. Tapping his fingers on the broken plate glass window that would have shielded the clerk behind it he read a dirty sticker that must have been placed by the people who had worked here. "Old psychiatrists never die, they just shrink away." With a ever growing grimace Alrich moved away from the glass and moved toward a door that read 'stairs', trying to comprehend human humor these days. The reason why Alrich was at this hospital was because he was to track down an individual known as Jason Edgers. From what he read he was a Quincy who seemed to have fallen from the so called grace of their odd as fuck ways, as he had attracted quite the drug addiction.

Which was kind of ironic, seeing as to where Alrich had been told this guy was hiding. Best for the druggies to hide out in a obvious place right? As he cleared the first flight of stairs Alrich pulled out a pistol that he had been issued from the CIA. Even though it had no real spiritual properties to it, it was just something that Alrich had become accustomed to using, dealing with humans all the time and stuff. Better to shoot them in the leg and have them live than tear the life out of them with his hands sadly. Too much paperwork that he did not want to have to deal with for the latter. Holding his pistol at chest level he switched off his flashlight as he heard a noise from deep in the hall before him. Slowly creaking the door open he peeked with one eye down into the seemingly deserted hallway, trying to get a look at what caused the noise.

Today was Sam's day off, a truly rare occasion even since she took on the shady rank of Paladin Inquisitor. Her long assignments normally stretch over many weeks or even months on end and usually there just wasn't anytime left to do anything else. Now normally, her definition of a vacation would be running back to her lab giggling creepily away while mashing up some new inventions, but today, she decided to go field-test her awesome new suit.

It was an interesting study based on the recent scientific discovery of metamaterials; composed of structures smaller than the wavelength of light which literally gave the material a negative refractive index.

In other words, invisibility.

Now, Sam's Schwarzer Nebel power pretty much did exactly that and more in the way that it erases spiritual presences, but that was so unexciting. Besides, people nowadays focus way too much on supernatural powers and stuff to forget about the super-interesting innovations of human technology. Perhaps Sam was trying to find some meaning in her power by experimentation and logic, but it was just mostly for fun.

Since the recently-finished job was based in New York, Sam couldn't be bothered to fly all the way back to Rome before trying her suit out, so she decided to make do and test it here, in perhaps one of the most dangerous cities in the world.

Walking around the city in her skin-tight suit which nobody could see, Sam was having a pretty amusing time poking unsuspecting punks on the streets before watching them freak out. That being said though, she wasn't completely unarmed either; you could never tell when something might happen in a city like New York.

The loud gunshot in the distance instinctively dropped Sam to a crouching position. Pinpointing the origin of the sound in an instant, like a moth drawn to fire, Sam quickly made her way to its nearby vicinity, while at the same time keeping a good distance for detection to prove difficult. Looking through a pair of binoculars (to others they would see a pair of floating binoculars), she spotted a man and woman of Quincy origins conversing beside a burning corpse, with her trusty directional-sound-enhancer earpiece, Sam quickly picked up from their words that they were of Vatican-affiliation, just like herself.

Deciding to follow them for no particular reason other than curiosity with a hint of voyeuristic pleasures, Sam trailed the two all the way towards a hospital.

[OOC: Sam is currently detectable as the suit is not spiritually enhanced or anything to suppress Reiatsu. That being said, her spiritual presence isn't all that high anyways, and if anything is only emitting a harmless sense of curiosity~]

"Your pronounciation is off, Santiago," Ville corrected him, rolling the French of her name over full, femine lips. And yet, it came with its own, firm strength of word: "Le'Valiér"

Walking on, she passed under the disfunctional streetlight. It did not work, and neither was there a requirement for it to work; the traffic of the city had been destroyed; all cars and means of transportation other than going by foot turned obsolete. Before civilization could be re-introduced to the city, it had to be cleaned up from the mentally deluded. In her mind, Ville didn't regard them as filth or other propaganda. She was a protectionist. All those defying order had to be eliminated.

Even though she'd been called out on being talkative, she continued: "Do you consider that pointless? It's as pointless as you speaking my name out unlike the way it's supposed to be pronounced. Why do you do that? Considering I've told you before; considering your mental prowess allows you to follow an instruction so simple.

So if you do that, only to hear chiding words from my lips, or more simply, only to hear me speak, why is it that you ask a question regarding my speaking up to begin with? Not that you mind.."

By the end of her paragraph, she halted, looking over her shoulder. Entertaining a feeling, perhaps, she did not comment it, however. Walking on, the hospital appeared infront of the pair of exterminators.

"What's the tactical report on Edger's profile? What do we know?" Ville's voice was - while focused on the task - not as stern as it would be during regular operations. While it was a task of the Hunting Apostle no doubt, it was questionable if it was purposeful to send the strongest of the unit, their Knight-Commander, and the unit's most capable intellect, Santiago, for a mission of a rank that was considerably low.

It was no doubt an experience meant to humble at least one of them. Knights weren't supposed to entertain pride, and by reminding the soldiers of the Holy Army that no one was above a certain task, discipline was certainly being kept. It was basic fundamental of serving as a templar, a knight in the service of the church, to renounce all worldy affiliations, pride being one of them, to fully embrace the function of service. By letting the church rule over one's body, goals and decisions, one ceased to exist and became a direct extension of its holy being.

And was it not holy? Bringing light into this dark place.

The clicking of Ville's heels upon the torn asphalt of the street was replaced by a darker, heavier sound... Threatening in singularity, as though only one warning would be given, the Knight-Commander's modified Starscream was unlocked and voice-activated:

"Sünder aller Länder."

Santiago motioned to reply to Ville but he stopped himself and looked over his shoulder. There was something wrong with the environment. He reached into his jacket and drew his starscream. The expression of a hunter was plain on his face.

“We’re being watched.” It wasn’t a question, it was a statement. Santiago had a sixth sense that was sharp enough to detect those who weren’t hiding, and at the moment he sensed three different powers. “There’s someone in the hospital too. Might be Edgers.”

Santiago looked back to Ville. “Orders, commander?”

“Help me . . .,” Jason Edgers moaned.

He took a step forward, stumbled, and fell down in the alleyway behind the old psychiatric ward. “. . . Help me . . .”

“I shall.”

Edgers looked up, his eyes bloodshot and mouth foaming. “. . . Who . . .?”

“The Balance.”

The spiritual pressure that settled over New York was strong enough to draw everything’s attention.

Nope, nothing here too, muttered the figure in the silence of his mind as he exited through the doors of the building which turned out to be a hospital. He wore an air-tight orange-colored Type 1 Hazardous Material suit with the insignia of the World Health Organization emblazoned onto the right breast in white. An ‘Authorized Personnel’ badge hung over his neck and swayed with the cold and unforgiving winds of the American front which only exacerbated the glum atmosphere of New York’s now deathly-quiet streets. He was glad he had been such good friends with the UN and its various branches; without their help, a foreigner like him would even not be able to get into the city. It was just one of the benefits of maintaining good public and business relations with their clientele, a trademark service from the corporate enterprise he was part of.

Held on to his person just as tightly as the gun-shaped object strapped to his right thigh was, the man carried a matte-black military-grade tablet which he used to check for the available telemetry on an area which was conveniently provided for him by a reliable source high above the clouds, continually scanning the ruins of what used to be a bustling metropolis that had been turned into one massive grave marker for the unfortunate souls that had perished there and categorized their hazard level in an ascending order from '1' to '3', with the latter being the most dangerous. Truly, he was quite the unusual spelunker who had been braving the ruins of buildings for a treasure only he knew the value of, but the risk was worth the pay-off later on.

As the man wandered back into the streets, his eyes caught the sight of two figures right in front – dressed in attire which was blatantly inappropriate for the deathtrap that the Big Apple had become. They looked like cosplayers, and the real serious ones too, as their fashion reflected some of the animated characters the figure had often watched whenever he was on a day-break and he decided to de-stress by watching animated shows on Crunchyroll. He just never thought cosplayers would even dare set foot into New York. Then again, he did not have any reason to mind; as long as they did not bother him, they could run around naked in Times Square for all he cared—

—well, maybe he would, but if only to the thought of the beautiful silver-haired vixen running around the ruins of the famous landmark in the glory of her divine nudity. As for the one who looked much like the main character from Sutorenja Mukouhadan, the image of his naked body running in motion was immediately barred from the man’s thoughts for obvious reasons.

With a curt nod to signify that he was not a threat, which likewise doubled as a brief acknowledgment of their presence, the man in the suit proceeded to walk towards them if only to pass by the two in order to proceed to his next destination for his objective: Grand Central Station, or what was left of it; a 'Category 2' location.

Alrich shook his head and let out a annoyed sigh as he found the source of the noise that he had heard. Stowing away his pistol he looked at the small animal with a note of displeasure. He had always hated cats, not only did he think they smelled but he had always disliked them because they acted as if they owned everything. It was quite the long list as to why he was not fond of them. Shooing the little grey cat away Alrich began to look around on what was left of the floor of the building. Finding nothing however Alrich walked over to the large opening on the floor which had been the result of the roof caving in.

Standing in a slight breeze, Alrich the area around the hospital for any signs of life as he lazily scratched his neck with his left hand. Well this trip had been quite the waste of time. The information he was given had probably just been a false lead. Or just a rouse to get Alrich out of some peoples hair more or less. As he went to run around a low cracking rumble could be heard as the building he was in began to shake a bit. From the looks of it more of the roof was about to collapse.

Alrich was about to jump of the ledge he was standing on until he heard the light sound of the cat he had met earlier meowing in the distance. "Fuck." He spat as his face contorted into a twisted frown as he marched down the hallway that he had came from quickly, making himself look like a little kid who had been told no and was stomping away from his parents. Holding the cat away from his body, he emerged from the darkened room the cat was in and with a leap just as the roof collapsed ALrich with the animal in tow landed with a thump back on the street bellow. "There. Now don't get into anymore trouble you stupid animal." Alrich grunted at the cat as he tossed it to the ground and lightly kicked out toward it, to scare it away.

Just as he did this however, a immense spiritual pressure could be felt very close to where he was. "What the?" Barked as the cat finally ran away. It seemed to have realized trouble was about to occur here, and it wanted nothing to do with it. Alrich on the other, was not so scared.

Sam found a nice open rooftop to set up camp for maximum comfort while spying; Sitting down by the edge of the building to look around, the sight range was amazing and the breeze was kinda nice. No longer requiring the full visual invisibility her suit provided, Sam unsealed her face-mask (the suit covers the whole body) to allow her face to show and her long strawberry blonde hair to flow down. Inhaling deeply then exhaling as if she hadn't taken a proper breath in ages, Sam remarked-

"Fuu... Seriously needs some airflow in here.."

She jotted it down on her notebook. Taking out a mini-carton of honey-melon juice and popping the straw into its metallic foil hole, Sam dropped lazily to a prone position to continue watching the two Quincies with her binoculars, one of which identified as the Knight Commander herself; there's probably no one who doesn't know her in the Vatican.

"Heeeh?"

Sucking up some tasty goodness from her drink while monitoring her targets, Sam quickly spotted another two that had entered the scene, one of which seemed to be a little impaired.

<SPIRITUAL PRESSURE>

"PPPPFFFF!! Woah!! What the shits?!"

Spitting out her mouthful of juice in surprise as the whole atmosphere around her changed all of a sudden, Sam took her eye off the tool for a moment to cautiously survey her environment before refocusing intensely in her surveillance; Turning the dial on the binoculars to zoom further at the group.

((Just a note: the energy spikes pertain to the spirit pressure. Of course, a non-spiritual normal human would not know how to make sense of the sudden rise in spirit energy nor could he feel it, but his equipment could. In sum, think of 'Ghostbusters', minus the spook knowledge and more on T.A.P.S. and their 'WTF did my camera just get?' style.))

The man in the orange suit has seen his fair share of unexpected events and mishaps during the course of his occasional run-ins with locations where the possibility of contamination was high, but as always the professional, he merely disregarded such events and went on with his objective as usual. Such was the case when his black tablet’s digital telemetry displayed copious amounts of energy spikes in a twenty meter radius from his present location seemingly from out of nowhere.

As quickly as the energy signatures manifested, the man's mind instantly attributed the suddenness of the event to the possibility of New York’s nuclear reactors suddenly spewing forth its contents and contaminating the immediate vicinity since it was the most logical conclusion, but when he examined the data further, the man found out that almost the entire city had been blanketed with such energy spikes. There is no way New York's power plants could contaminate such a large area so quickly. This must be a mistake..., thought the man, ...but it is still better to be safe than seared from radiation burns.

“Damn it, I hope the data is wrong,” cursed the man in a muffled voice from behind his military gas-mask. While it was clear that the man’s attire allowed for him to resist such levels of possibly radioactive contamination, the others were not similarly dressed, including the other man who just seemingly jumped off the hospital’s roof after it had collapsed in on itself. Then again, he knew that it was humanly impossible to survive such a height without at least gaining some degree of physical injury – something which was absent from the new arrival – and as such simply attributed it to the most logical conclusion possible: that he had just simply missed the man when he came out of the ruins. However, he and his cat were the least of his worries.

With a sigh, the man in the hazmat suit dusted off what remained of a seat from a bus waiting shed and sat on it. The man subsequently tapped his screen a few times and slid his finger a few times until the ping sound which notified him that his messages had been successfully sent reached his ears. He had just given out a brief report to notify his crew and the WHO representatives he was partially working on a favor for since it was they who had asked him to survey the area, if he wanted to, since he was already exploring the ruins of New York for whatever it was he sought to find. With that done, the man spoke to everyone in his immediate vicinity.

“Hey, just so you guys know, my tablet is picking up large energy readings from the surrounding area, twenty meters from our present location. I reckon it might be from New York’s nuclear reactor going critical and contaminating a large part of the entire city – as much as that sounds improbable. Still, this is just me letting you guys know that you may want to weigh in your options before making a move. Again, this is just friendly advice,” he said. How they would interpret his warning was up to them, but if anything, the man was satisfied that he had the common human decency to apprise them of their predicament; from there, they could go Sherlock Holmes or Leeroy Jenkins, or whatever it was they think is right.

The man was met with an eerie silence despite the possibly dire warning he had just issued. He could have expected some kind of reaction, or at least, even an acknowledgement, but the other man and the cosplayers – all ill-equipped to handle the possibly deadly radiation in the area – chose to maintain their respective silences as if he did not exist. It was a very peculiar response and something which he was not at all unfamiliar with. After all, being a businessman and a black marker arms merchant meant having to deal with all manner of clients with different personalities, with some being just as high-browed, or just plain snobbish, in their dealings with the young Italian. Not that it bothered him, of course.

“Well, I guess this means that my role is done…?” the young man blurted out in a final, yet possibly futile, attempt at eliciting a reaction from those who were present, but just as was his patience, the man’s hope with communication was at an end. He neither knew these people nor were they his objectives, but it was just that he found them rather interesting and it was only human nature to give some attention over something which one found interesting – something which was waning as every grueling minute passed by. In this case, however, he was just making a formality before proceeding with his business elsewhere and let these people continue with whatever it was that they were there for.

In the span of time after the man’s statement, he took it upon himself to make use of his tablet’s high-definition camera to take discreet photographs of the other three people if only to commemorate their faces before they would be cooked from the inside from what the man expected to be heavy exposure to radiation. He already gave them a free pass by informing them of their possibly dire situation and anything more, without monetary compensation or moral compulsion, was just wasting his time. As to why he thought that way, the answer was simple enough: if there was one thing he learned from being in war zones all over the world, it was that helping someone who does not want to be helped is like casting pearls before swine or conversing with a statue.

As if setting a time limit for himself before the man in the hazmat suit acquiesced from the meeting, he began to play a tune which softly filled his Bluetooth earpiece with a short song. However, deep in his heart, the man knew better than to stick around when he could be getting his objective done. Still, as was the ancient proverb of man went: ‘Hope springs eternal.’

Even with the appearance of a power even greater than what they expected of the likes of a fallen Quincy, the hospital was still their target, and the people within it, around it, and all those scattered across the city could be disregarded.

"Are you implying that I didn't notice this, Santiago? The eyes of the spiritual aware were on us the moment we entered this city. For we are the light. Do the credo of the order. The mission remains unchanged.

We'll provoke them into showing themselves, then I'll keep them at bay while you analyze them. Intercept when you've come up with a solution. I trust your skills."

Before the Commander could take lead, they were approached by a figure in a science suit. Ville recognized a human's need to protect himself to such a degree, if they lacked spiritual power, in a possibly poluted environment, but she didn't think some kind of organization would send their agents into this area without background. While it could be a trap, the figure that approached them had no presence when it came to spiritual things.

If he wasn't going to say anything, then she wasn't going to say anything. He seemed fine with keeping it at a nod. Although they existed in the same world, their stages of existence were different. If he cared about some kind of explosion on a biological level or nuclear level, she could only disregard these factors as neglectable, considering the spiritual war the world had been subjected to was more of a fate-making occurance.

That he wasn't only a medical examiner was betrayed when his tablet sensors picked up the same kind of energy Ville and Santiago felt due to the nature of their Quincy genes. Such an odd figure. Had Ville not been so result-oriented, she might've stopped to ask a few questions.
But no. He was only some freak. Something they'd cast aside.

There was not the need for blood, if he did not create it.

The moment his bluetooth earpiece began to play music, and the moment he turned around, Ville's hand placed on the young man's shoulder, pulling him around, even though he had displayed the desire to abort the unplanned meeting in the ruined streets of New York.

As ridiculous as he considered them -- the moment her golden eyes glared through his environmental suit's see-through visor -- he would realize a stern drive that no mentally challenged person could ever produce, unless they were truly insane. He was either dealing with true purpose or pure insanity. Given the way the two were dressed and given the expression on their faces, the former was so much more likely.

Golden eyes commanded obedience, shining with undeniable strength.

"I don't know who you are. I don't care. If you leave now, you will live."

Telling him that the power that had appeared was as overwhelming as the power of those who had destroyed this city to begin with, perhaps closely linked to it - What would it mean? What could he possibly harvest from such an exclammation? Cynically speaking, one life more or less lost wouldn't do the world any worse.

Letting go of his shoulder, she swayed past the hazard suit and walked around the hospital, driven by a sensor within her, one more precise than any of his technological devices. No doubt, Santiago close behind. Thoughts of her being naked would return to Dante's imagination, for walking past him revealed curves of a different kind. Never the less, not a single step was taken slowly, striding full of purpose, the Quincy Knights moved back on course toward their objective.

She had no time to explain her world to him.

Drawn by The Balance's unbalanced display of spiritual power, Ville and Santiago -- if no further challenges arose -- would walk around the hospital, happening upon their victim and the new presence.. Looking down into the alley, Ville pointed the ornate Starscream in her hand at the quivering, foaming target upon the floor. The unnamed appearance would block the way of her bullets, however, if she fired.

"Step aside. You're standing in the way of justice."

The man in the hazmat suit was put aback with the sudden and almost unexpected reaction from one of the people there, and it was no less than from the gorgeous tanned goddess he had unclothed with his hidden stares from the moment he had laid eyes upon her alluring form – an evening primrose from head to toe. However, he soon realized just how sharp this elegant rose’s thorns were.

Her slender fingers forced themselves upon his shoulder and reeled his body into the clutches of the woman, just like a black widow catching and coiling upon her mate – sensual, yet dangerous – in one fatal embrace before devouring him wholly. The thought of it made his body alert as the man felt every fiber of his being livened with both shock and ecstasy, his sense of fear and danger numbed by the anticipation of what she was about to do next and what he would do to reciprocate it should the need for such an act arise.

If experience had taught him one important thing with respect to women who could handle themselves, he knew that such a dangerous, sexy, and unpredictable women such as her, the femme fatale who had him firmly in her clutches, were never one to be underestimated. It was a thought that lingered around his head as he stared up at the slightly taller lady whose height easily reached that of a professional model for Victoria’s Secret. Her sweet perfume wafted up his nose, as if teasing it with its exotic fragrance, and which would have entranced the Italian arms dealer by now had he not been focused on maintaining his composure in the face of a silver-haired belladonna.

When her lucid golden eyes stared into his own vermilion hues, he knew that his initial assessment on them was totally incorrect. The two cosplayers were not as he saw them: fools who willingly go to where even angels fear to tread; rather, the eyes the man saw were those filled with intense volition and unyielding devotion to some higher being or purpose – in short, the eyes of a zealot. Not just any zealot, however; no, if the dark-skinned angel’s eyes similarly vouched for her companion, their religious fervor might even reach that of those of the men and women who swore complete and utter devotion and fealty to their God-Emperor, their Undying Lord from a certain popular tabletop game from Games Workshop.

Things always have to be complicated, he mentally blurted out with a similarly internal sigh. It seemed as though he had the luck of meeting incredibly gorgeous women, albeit they seemingly turn out to be, at least from his own point of view, a few cards short of a full deck. Then again, considering the 'Hot-to-Crazy' scale as mentioned by the acclaimed author of The Bro Code, Barney Stinson, she was still on the ideal end of the spectrum so he did not complain; and even after the woman addressed to him a grim warning through the soft music in his ears, if not an outright threat, the man considered himself blessed by Lady Fortuna.

“No offense meant, miss, but I have heard graver threats from women in a bar on a Friday night; and the name is Dante, by the way – it might do you good to remember it considering that you may or may not call out for it, especially with all the radiation around,” he said in a cool and casual manner right before the woman allowed the young Italian’s shoulder to go free once more and thereafter strode off into the hospital he had just finished exploring, leaving Dante to himself and the other man by themselves.

The arms dealer allowed a short chuckle to escape from his lips and mentally repeated to himself the words of the sultry seductress with a no-nonsense attitude. “If I leave now, I would live?” he said in the spirit of light skepticism. “Sorry, miss, but now that you have my attention there is no way I could leave without at least knowing your name.”

Without missing a beat and wasting no time, Dante stopped the music player and began to tap and slide his fingers on his tablet once more. After he was done, he heard a voice from his earpiece: it was from Vergil, asking as to what Dante wanted to do now to which he replied that he wanted to conduct a cross-check on the results of the data his tablet was receiving to the actual figures from the Mizukagami’s network. He wanted to verify if the city-wide energy spikes were truly from radioactive sources or whether it was from something else – specifically, similar to the Arsenal Gear he had faced before. If it was the latter, then Dante had all the more reason to find out so that he would not have to resort to drastic measures just as he did back then.

Gray furs flocked in a harmless stream of wind, carrying the rich, smoking scent of a Tuscan cigar in its wake. The thick roll of tobacco parted from lips curled with pure disdain, inhumane light-blue orbs casting their vision upon a rundown hospital with a multitude of unimpressive spiritual signature; unlike the Espada. He veiled his spiritual pressure and simply stood in the air a plethora of meters above the establishment; unseen, unknown, and heavy with purpose. The current state of New York resembled the natural state of his kingdom, yet the elements composing them were disgustingly different.

The artful strife and destructive that enveloped the region was a mere sheath concealing the lingering complacency. Decadence had been rifted from the state, and yet no growth had been harnessed. It was his undying duty to display true wrath to any and all beings that deserved its flame, and to eradicate anyone unworthy of noticing its exquisite beauty. A last drag of the cigar interrupted the raging torrent of speculations bubbling inside the Espada. “I am thinking of fire, Vespucci.”

He would show them the price of complacency, and drag every being to glory. The true reckoning had come, and they would all be grateful or be scraped from existence.
