The morning hours in the Library, before The Restructure.
Tomitsuka Shizuku lowered her head, facing the parchment that was her work. All she had for company was the lights and the young woman that was her superior. A true study environment.
What was she doing? Well, as one would say, "Doing the scholarly things". Her fish tail didn't really matter when she was seated, so all she was at the time was just a girl with a pen.
Stretching her arms over her head, her ear-fins perked as she reviewed her work once again:"I. Introduction
It appears that as of recent, defense-related Kidō have been rendered useless in the face of enemies with an ever-increasing offense power. The aim of this writing is to create a defensive technique as close to omnipotent as possible.
To begin, one must first review the two basic functions of barrier-type Kidō:
1. To isolate hazards (or isolate entities from hazards).
2. To diffuse, defuse or stop oncoming hazards.
The resultant technique must in the very least cover these two functions to omnipotency or near-omnipotency.
II. Fault Analysis
In order to overcome the faults of the current high-level barrier-type Kidō, their faults must first be analyzed:
First and foremost, all barriers can be completely overcome by facing any technique, hazard or entity with greater strength.
Secondly, the energy placed into the barrier to keep it active has a degree of inefficiency.
Lastly, the barrier(s), once overcome, completely dissipates. This results in further inefficiency.
In order to create a new technique that can overcome all aforementioned faults, the following points must be considered:
1. A singular barrier will inevitably be broken or overcome in a single strike. It may also be passed through entirely.
2. A barrier, if immediate action is not taken, will dissipate after being broken.
3. The barrier can be overcome through space-time and dimensional techniques.
III. Solution
Therefore, to create an omnipotent barrier, it must:
1. Possess multiple layers thick enough so it cannot be passed through using stealth or forceful penetration.
2. Constantly re-produce aforementioned layers when one (or multiple) inevitably break down. These new layers must move into place at the same time the initial barrier falters, in order to properly contain opposition.
3. Exist on all dimensions in order to prevent all forms of stealth techniques.
4. Be sustainable for lengths of time.
IV. Conclusion
The following is a Kidō designed to create a penultimate solution by considering all aforementioned information:
((This is the technique itself))千軍鉄壁「φάλαγξ」 [Sengun Teppeki "Phalanx" | Iron Wall of a Thousand Generals | Phalanx]: Phalanx is a Defensive Kidō that isn't simply a sustained barrier, but a multi-layered barrier that continuously refreshes itself as means of sustenance, making it nearly impenetrable. This is similar to a dense formation of heavy infantry that marches as one to increase the group's defensive power. It appears as a layer created out of a multitude of seemingly vibrating, transparent (but not invisible) hexagonal barriers.
Even if the initial, frontal barrier falters, the one behind would simply replace it, to be continued ad infinitum. The barriers are in constant motion within set boundaries, not necessarily in front of oneself. In order to penetrate it, one would have to concentrate an extremely powerful attack into a single tiny point anywhere on the barrier. This would have to be a stabbing attack, as a slash would distribute power over too much space. Even after penetration, the surrounding layers will immediately move to cover the hole, and the missing layers will eventually be refreshed, making this barrier-type Kidō a self-regenerating barrier.
Incantation: 集え、兵士達!十兵・百兵・千兵・万兵・十万兵・陣形を整え前を進め! [Tsudoe, Heishi-tachi! Jūbei Mohei Chihei Manpei Jūmanhei Jinkei o totonoe mae o susume! | Gather, soldiers! Ten Soldiers Hundred Soldiers Thousand Soldiers Ten Thousand Soldiers assume formation and march onward!]
This technique satisfies point 1. by having multiple layers. By creating a barrier that uses the residual energy originally meant to sustain the layer over time to, instead, generate a new layer to replace the original, a constantly regenerating barrier is created. It is also given a free-flowing property, completely satisfying point 2. This actually results in an extreme level of efficiency, allowing sustenance for long periods, satisfying point 4.
However, this does not satisfy point 3. This is due to the multiple dimension theory that an infinite number of dimensions exist (from Yashin, Y (DATE REDACTED) Analyzing An Infinite World).
V. Recommendation
Not only does the "Phalanx" have a potentially infinite defensive power, it is possible to translate this defensive power into an offensive ability by increasing and adding directional vectors. The following is an extension to the original technique detailing the method of offensive application.
((Again, this is the technique itself))衝突「κροῦσις」 [Shōtotsu "Krousis" | Crash/Collision]: The Phalanx is such a powerful defense that it works as an offense. Accelerating the movement of the barriers, an entire armada of charging barriers is sent crashing into the target. It can take the form of a moving wall, as a layer applied to a person's body to increase the strength of the impact, or fired like a projectile.
One can also utilize "Phalanx" as a concept to improve existing barrier techniques. The most notable being the recently-developed "White Severing Boundary Wall", an Anti-Quincy weapon.
The applied concept would create a technique similar to the following:白断結壁:密集陣形 [Hakūdan Keppeki: Misshū Jinkei | White Severing Boundary Wall: Cluster Formation]: An improved version of the Hakūdan Keppeki using the theory utilized by Sengun Teppeki (Phalanx). The new wall, made of clusters of transparent, rectangular panels now has means of infinite sustenance, and can also be fired at an enemy Quincy as a big block of high-speed barriers near-immune to reishi manipulation. A true multi-purpose anti-Quincy weapon.
This, in theory, makes the "Phalanx" the most powerful and versatile barrier-type Kidō that can properly defeat beyond-Captain-level adversaries."
Rolling the scroll up, she got out of her chair, floating over to the lady she refers to as the "Kusanagi-sama", to submit her work. Kusanagi Chie was, despite the difference in their age, one of the strongest and most respected ladies in the Corps (barring Minamoto Sakura, who was no longer with them (bless her)). She was also ranked, forcing Shizuku to use the "-sama" honorific as just "-san" would be far too rude for the difference in their rank.
"Excuse me, Kusanagi-sama. I'd like to submit this." Shizuku said in a low voice, so as not to disturb the others who may or may not be present in the library as well.
